weird bog problem

well its getting colder out and i have no idea if it makes a difference with our cars or not but when i get up around 4-5k rpm the motor doesnt want to accelerate anymore. this started last night, but if i shut off the car for a minute and then try again it revs out like normal. i thought maybe there is a leaf in the airbox restricting airflow but i havent got a chance to look yet because its raining and i dont feel like getting wet. anybody with a similar problem?

like the guy that moved from florida to ny my car is from florida and this is the first below freezing air it has seen, all related?

if the engine isn't a certain temp, you cant rev past a certain rpm.
i'm always capped off at 5grand when the car is really cold in 1st gear.
my experience anyhow...

Reset the ECU via battery disconnect. We've had one or two people previously with issues after they moved from way south to way north in regards to drastic temperature changes.

well... i just reset the ecu, checked the intake for debris, checked the engine oil, and added a little coolant because it was low. took it for a test drive and the same thing...its not a warmup issue because its running at normal temperature. it varies. today it seems to not cut out until 5500 and then it just doesnt want to go any farther but it will if i keep on it. my friend told me to try 91 octane for the hell of it so i think im going to see what that does next fill up

Nah, MAF wouldn't cause this problem. I think Kreepa is on the right path, something isn't working in your MIVEC system. I'm guessing your mechanical knowledge is limited, so this might be worth a trip to the dealer.

yea im probably going to take it to the dealer but there over an hour away so i was trying to avoid it if possible. i have some mechanical knowledge just not with cars, im more of a small engine guy.. i race motocross so i know more about that than cars

EDIT: well after looking into this even more i found someone with the same problem. here it is https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=mivec+plug

the engine "choked" at around 5k which is exactly what is happening to mine. he purposly unplugged his, so im guessing that my plug is loose, or the connection is bad. ill check tomorrow but if that doesnt work i guess its gonna be something the dealer has to handle

well I have an update. The car went to the dealer Wed. with a CEL for CAT failure they determined it was falling apart internally and they put a new one on. My car got to the point where it wouldn't go over 2700 RPM up hill. I noticed that I couldnt really go past a certian point in the throttle. If i kept it at that specific point the car would run fine on level roads at about 70mph. When I came to a hill it was fine if I kept my foot in the same position, but if I pushed the petal any further it would cut out again. so i'm thinking it might be fuel delivery. its still at the dealer so i'm hoping they can figure it out but does anybody have any ideas?

Your dealer may be right on the mark with the cat problem. I had a cavalier about 13 years ago that acted the same way. the cat on the car had fallen apart internal. I was driving in hill country and struggling badly on the hills. I finally got sick of it and floored the car hard, after a couple of seconds the car backfired hard, and I mean hard.- blew black particals and small metal chunks out the muffler. I stoped thinking I killed the poor limping thing. I examied everthing. At that point I couldn't really do anything but try to make it to the next town that was 30 minutes away. I jumped in and surprize the car ran great. It was loud but It ran will lots of pull. When I got it to a mechanic the next day he told me I had blew out the cat. He just installed a new one and no issues after that.

well no I don't think it's the cat because I have no cat and it has happened to me...it's fuel delivery I upgraded my fuel system and if the light comes on...or u r parked in a hill where ur car isn't straight ur fuel delivery fails...so the ECU knows and cuts fuel at 5500 rpm to prevent damage...this is what I think it has happened the same way it happened to u I just started it when it was straight and ran fine...or if I'm low on gas just fill it...problem resolved. This also will happen if ur injectors are malfuctioning

I was having somewhat of the same issue, however I had several codes for my Accelerator position sensor. Which i have now replaced and is now running fine. It might also be related to having the valve lash adjusted, for proper air fllow.
