Ported Intake Mani Issues
Ported Intake Mani Issues
Ok, dudes see if u guys can help a friend. He installed a ported IM, some shop did it for him. the issue is when he started it at first, the car was kinda weak turning the engine( starting) he started driving it, not flooring it, but letting the car climb rpms, all normal.... he gets to a stoplight, the car just dies, no signs of nothing, just shuts down like if he turned the ignition off. The car wouldnt start after that, so he took it back to the shop, removed the spark plugs to run a leakdown test.... they notice the sparks are burning lean, theyall had white residue instead of dark and it has tiny metal particles attached ( maybe from a faulty IM cleanup after porting), the thing is that every piston gave back 90 psi from the test, when mostly its supossed to run to 180/200 psi
Any tip from the guys that have IM?

Just a shot in the dark, but I'd worry that they didn't clean the manifold before installing it. If metal bits got in they could've chewed up all kinds of things. Valve seats come to mind. But it's very, very strange that every cylinder came back at 90. Hard to imagine a situation where every cylinder would drop identically.
Leakdown test should've helped identify the leak, though, unless you mean that they only did a compression test.

So was it a leakdown or compression test? I would try and compression test dry first then do a wet compression test....it should bump up the compression....also...a running compression test....this will tell you if you have a bad valve seat, leaking valve, bad head gasket, rings, etc..... There is still alot of test to do until you narrow it down....
My bad, compression test, got mixed up with the terms. The were gonna pull the head today, lets see where that takes us......
I didnt even think about the valve seals, thanx, lets hope he reads this before heading out
Any other suggestion is welcome.

on all 4 pistons the compression ring failed and it seized the engine, so far no damage to the head or block, genno was luck he wasn't banging' on the car.. it could have been worst...
how did this happen.. another chapter of unsolved mysteries

that's correct hopefully no damage to the pistons, cylinders or rods
the most incredible part is the car was working with no problems, no check engine, no stranger sounds and the temp was OK all the time

i was thinking.... the head is out so why don't send it to the machine shop
