first $4K of Mods
Ok guys and gals, i have 4 G's to spend on my stock 2004 lancer Ralliart (manual). this is the first 4Gs of many mods to come so i want to make sure i start off right. My goal is to start out N/A but eventually i want to get the injen stage 3 turbo to top it all off in like a year or so. Ive been checking out RRM and i have some good ideas but i was hoping that you pros out there could give me a good direction to start. Remember, I am going N/A first, then turbo down the road. Thanks for the input everyone!!
oh yea, I'm all about Go before Show, plus i like the sleeper idea better!

If you already have 4k, why not just save up the little bit extra and go turbo right away?
Anyways if you haven't done any mods the first things some (most?) people get would be the UDP from RRM, either a short ram/cold air intake and an exhaust. Those are just the first basic mods but I'm sure some others could give you some ideas on what to do with the rest of the money.

If you want to do it right, I would suggest UDP, Intake Manifold, Clutch upgrade and flywheel. Maybe even possible Head and cam that will work well with NA but also has a close enough LSA to bring out good power with Turbo system. All of this you can get from RRM. I would definately get the flywheel and stage 3 clutch first before getting turbo kit. No need on destroying stock with turbo kit. Save yourself some grief.
If this was me Id start with suspension!....im a big fan of corners
then right behind it would be some basic engine for a little more usable kick, ie. UDP, intake, etc.

If you plan on going all the way with this car, which I assume you do as you are willing to drop 4k into, an LSD should be on your list. It will greatly improve your cornering and is probably one of if not the best mods for cornering (apart from a good set of tires).
If you do a clutch and flywheel job definately do the LSD at the same time as it is necessary to take the tranny out to do all three of these things. The LSD will cost you extra but is definately worth it.
So basically what I'm saying is when you decide to do one of these mods do all three or you're going to be spending either alot of money or time pulling the tranny out.

lsd will be the single most significant handling mod you can do to the car. what do you plan on doing with the car, anyway? tracking, drag, autocross, idiot on public roads?
as for the exhaust, base it on your horsepower. From experience, i've seen that 2.5" will really kill your tq but boost highend pickup until you break the 200 whp mark. Anything less than that, stick with 2.25". If you can get over 250 whp, i'd think about 3' pipe, but thats uncharted water for me. Figuring thats a good $700 on the cheap each time you need a new catback, you're better off waiting towards the end of your modding to do major exhaust work.

true but some people can't afford the insurance on one of those.
and enjoy tracks and roads !
