Rally Cross with Lancer Ralliart......
I just paid off my 04 RA and my dream is to go to a rally cross event. I have only short ram AEM intake and I am about to install the RRM pulleys on it. Do you think the RA will do well in a actual rally/I know the driver will be a factor as well
/ ?
The engine is quite powerful and I am not going to put turbo on it cause I can not afford it. I do not even dream to win but I wanna compete. Do you think guys its doable and where should I start from? Thanks for your help in advance!

i think you should just go for it, even if you think you will be or think you won't be competitive, just go out and have some fun. I started autocrossing las year in my dad's ford taurus, and yes i was last every time (well.. there was this time i came second =D) but just go for it and try it out and have some fun. but it's mostly the driver, not the car that makes the times.
bottom line, go for it.
to start might be an issue. try to find a local club. other requirements are that your vehicle be in good mechanical shape, and a snell approved helmet, but most clubs will have loaner helmets of you don't have your own

when i went to an autocross event back in 07, i met this guy that had just bought an el camino. the reason he stood out was because that care stock had the springiest (i know thats not a real word) springs you'll ever see. man, when he took a turn.. he had to slow down almost to a dead stop or else it would flip. so i asked him.. "dude. how can you autocross in that thing?" he goes. "i cant. haha. but i couldnt wait! i have a few grand of engine parts and suspension sitting in the garage that ill start on tomorrow, but if i waited for the next event. thatd mean waiting until next month. why wouldnt i enter my car? autocross is effin fun as sh*t!
haha. right on, i guess.
anyways... go cross that ralliart!

Thanks you guys. I will be installing the rrm pulley this weekend and I found an event in Southern Illinois somewhere in Madison Illinois it is an autocross and I think I can sign up for the 26 of September cross. It seams a lot of fun the stages are kind of short but still I think it will be fun.
I assume that a softer suspension will be better but I will go with the stock the first time. Do you know if there are any suspension set ups for our cars that are suitable for rally?

I have Tein SuperStreet coilovers, but there's nothing from tein specifically made for rallying. but it's good that you found a club. your foot is now in the door, so ask the other drivers at the event if they do any other kind of racing. there is bound to be at least one who does rallycross, and ask them for info on the next event =) or others you are interested in
I think the car is fine for rallycross. It lacks an LSD, but I think you can still get along fine. A coilover with adjustable damping would be your best bet, so you can play around with it, and keep the height of the car up.
What kind of tires do you plan on using? If you can't justify the cost of dirt tires, snow tires do well in dirt, then you can use them during the winter, too.

I was looking at winter tires, but do u think it is good Idea to go with a smaller wheel size or I should put them on the stock 16"s. I was thinking to go with a 14 or 15" with a bigger tires, is that a good idea. And do you know any tunning company that makes a plate for protection the engine from rocks and etc..

14" won't clear the brakes. I would stick with 16", I think it's the best compromise between flexibility and control.
Nobody makes anything specific for our car, but I don't imagine it'd be too hard for a fabricator to whip up some parts to protect the basics (oil pan, trans)
