So just a little problem.

I have a 05 ralliart, just something i noticed when im driving/ step on the gas pedal it sounds like a whistling noise coming from the engine, and then when the it switches gears it sounds like there is a CAI in the car but there isn't, makes a weird air noise.Does it after every shift of gear too. Any ideas what this might be?

I've had catalytic converters whistle when the stuff inside starts to degrade and break away.

When cat's fail, do they make a rattling sound in the exhaust at certain points? because when I am WOT i get a buzz after 4000 rpm. as well, engine braking and then tapping the throttle I get a loud pop above 3000 rpm. I have a high flow cat with the o2 defouler so I don't really know if it actually is bad or not, I got under the car and banged on the cat with my fist and it's not rattling so I don't think the core is broken.

as for the whistling, I get a kind of whining noise when it is cold out that kind of sounds like straight cut gears, just not as loud. I'm thinking it's the belts or something. not sure though.

The intake whistles all the time in my car , sounds like a turbo spoolin lol . I think you should look there , the only way to get rid of it is to cause more restriction on the intake, and who wants to do that. GL

I made it to 96k then changed it myself, not that anyone should do that! Go get it changed or do it yourself at 60k. Don't risk your whole engine!
