Timing belt/UDP

Hey guys, i'm new to the site, but i've got an 06 ralliart. I'm at 58k miles and just put it in storage for the winter. I was going to change my timing belt over the winter now that its in storage, but i was curious if i had to take my serpentine belt off to do the timing belt? If so, i was wondering if i might as well put on an under drive pulley? Any help is great. Thanks.

I know there has been many debates on here about reliability with udp, anybody put over a 100k on it?

You can feel the difference but I am not sure there is any hard data to support the claims. If ther are I would love to see it. Personally I am not a fan that the aftermarket pulley removes the rubber (dampening) ring.

OttRalliart05, feel the difference between what? I'm just curious how everyones engines are doing if they have put over 100k on the udp, all of the reliability arguments i read were back from 2005 and everyone was saying only time will tell. So now that it's 2011, just thought i'd see if theres any issues. Thanks for the info guys.

I noticed a bit of a battery charging issue while at idle. Its not that its not charging the battery it. Since the UDP slightly decrease the RPM of all accessorys at idle the outout of the Alternator is alittle lower. I knew this would happen before the install and it doesnt bother me at all or the car. I would say yes to the mod. I have had mine on for 35000kms and no issues so far. If I have any of my theory messed up someone please feel free to correct me.

The first thing you'll notice is a much smoother idle. That's the biggest thing I noticed when I first had it put on. You'll get some power gain but not a whole lot you can really feel. Once the belt breaks in a little, it becomes a little bit more noticeable. I've had mine for around 20k, I'd say. No issues at all so far.

Thanks for the feedback guys, anyone with 100k or more with the udp feel free to chime in!

P.s. Do you need to reset the ECU after putting the udp on?
