Unhappy Transmission trouble!

hi buddies! im back with another trouble in my 4g69 '05 ralliart:

when the car is cold my transmission works fine, but i can hear something like a "bearing friction sound" when the clutch is out, when i press the clutch the sound disappears i'm not thinking about clutch bearing because its new and when it was damaged it sounds in a different way, besides, in that case the sound was when pressing the clutch pedal. I also noticed a very strange reverse sound, i know about a classic sound from the gearbox when in reverse, but this is different.
once the car is hot or driven for about one hour, second and third gears specially makes a "crack" raspy sound when geared, besides if i do a downshift from 3rd to 2nd the "crack" or raspy sound is louder. i took the car to my mechanic last week , he disassembled the garbox and he found a short spring (???) and a lot of metalic burr inside in the waste magnet, apparently from a bearing, there are NOT damaged gears, synchros seems to be ok (just typical wear), does anybody have an exploded view of the transmission?? my mechanic have one , but it is from a 2.0 liters lancer tranny, so he couldnt find where are located that spring or what he thinks was a bearing, i dont know if it is the same exploded view for both trannys.

please help me! thanks a lot!

p.s. im ussing 75w-90 synthetic oil on it, so it is not the problem!

If you plan to keep the car and do your own work, I cannot say enough for www.alldatadiy.com, it's a must have.

My transmission is clattering as well and I had a DSM guy look at it and it's pretty much appears to be my carrier bearings on the input shaft. Although, he did not take the sump plate off and do an inspection like your mechanic.

THANKS A LOT BUDDY this is what i was looking for!!!, we found a problem, the bearing #19 is damaged!!! so the second speed gear is not in the right position! thats why it was making strange sounds when gearing! what i supossed to be a crushed "spring" found in the magnet was in deed needles from the bearing crushed (against the gears i guess...) so tomorrow i'll go to my local bearing store looking for it... i hope they have one in stock!
i really apreciate your help and your time buddy! thanks a lot!!!!

oooooh!!!! im so angry! my second gear is damaged! apparently some burrs ( i'm not sure about this word! hahaha i wanna say metalic residues) came between the needle bearing and the 2nd gear, so the gear is crushed in some internal places, i'll see my lathe tomorrow (im not sure about this word, but i'll see the mechanic that uses drillers for make some pieces) the question is:

can i cut down some milimeters from the gear and make some "cap" or "bushing" on it to get a smooth surface again with the original diameter? and buy again some OEM bearing, or may be it is not apropiated ?? can you tell me another soulution avoiding a new gear, this because here in mexico , mitsu parts are very expensive, and ALWAYS you have to wait between 15 days to 1 month to get your spare part.

thanks a lot again for your time !

My input shaft bearing went for a crap and either I could get it rebuilt or find a used one, for me the best choice was to get a used one......once there is major damage there is major cost. If you have the right tools and are not afraid to get dirty you can do it yourself.

i have no valid input, but my LSD should be here this week, and based on those diagrams i'm scared shyt-less to crack open the tranny

if you think you can do it yourself i would go for it, cause the labour cost of disassembling the transmission would be astronomical i would imagine, it's just finding the part that's the problem...is there a fairly local machine shop around they may be able to do something for you...i have no ideas sorry

Wouldn't a significant part of the labour cost be getting the transmission out to work on it, then putting it back in? If you can do that and take just the transmission itself to a specialist to crack open on his bench then that would save much $

Agreed... That's somewhat what I'm planning on doing later, I'm going to just buy an extra low milage tranny and build it up, so I have little down time.

Hi buddies, i solver my problem, i went to my local machine shop so they replaced the needles in the bearing for a new ones and also did a little true to the gear with a sandpaper, fortunately here in mexico labour cost is very low for mechanics works, i spend just a little as 300 dls for the whole work, including labor working, bearings, machined, oil, etc, so its just a little bit compared to buy a brand new transmission (as much as 3,500 dls!!!!!! with my local mitsu dealer).

the low mileage used transmission option is discarded, i live in veracruz , a relatively small city, here there are only 4 lancer ralliarts on the streets, one of each available color (mine is diamond white pearl effect) so get an RA transmission is a hard job! now think about a low mileage, low priced transmission is just a joke!, so i hope my rebuilt trannsmission works fine!!

Thanks buddy! believe me... if i can do a full transmission replacement , i'll do it without thinking!, why are you installing an lsd?? when i went to my local mitsu dealer they gave me a flyer about lancer family (es,es premium, ls, ls diamond, and ralliart trims were available here in mexico) so, in one of the last descriptions i read the note limited slip differential ("transmisión con diferencial positivo" in spanish) and just the ralliart was marked, so i don't know if here in mexico RA's were loaded with a LSD, this is because i saw a lot of "original" options for the RA in other countries like woofer, 6 disc in dash cd player, sunroof, 4 airbags instead 2, etc, here in mexico just one ralliart version arrived for 2005, it was loaded with all those extras, i also read in some internet page like 3 years ago something about a price starting in 18 k for the ralliart and finishing in 20ks, here was only one price, 243,200 pesos ( like 22k USD) i don't know if the price variation is due to taxes or something like thar or if it is due to different equipment, i had this doubt since i bought the car... do you know something about this??
