Crank, no start DTC P0657
Crank, no start DTC P0657
Hi Guys, got a problem with my 04 Sportback (CAI, underdrive pulley, muffler) with 125000 miles. Tried to start the other day and it cranked and tried to start but wouldn't. I figured it was the fuel pump with that many miles on it so I replaced and no start. Checked code and P0657 came up which is fuel pump relay so I replaced the relay and no start. P0657 also suggests further electrical tests to determine if the circuit is still functional. The only thing I can think of is that I cleaned the throttle body (with spray) a few weeks ago and Alldata says NOT to use the spray as it can get into the electronic throttle control. Anyone had this problem or is it time for me to finally go buy a new Ralliart and get the turbo I always wanted?
the fuel pump has two relays...and what makes you think it was a fuel problem? P0657 is Throttle actuator control motor relay circuit malfunction...
clean and re-seat the connectors on the throttle body and APPS...

I figured that the pump had quit because I couldn't hear it when I turned the key on (had to replace the pump on my Suzuki street bike lately and it looked like the same pump and problem). Then I read up on fuel pump relay problems people were having so that's why I continued down that path. That's when I decided to see if a code had been saved and that's where I'm at. I'll check connections tonight. Thanks for help!
I just had a peak in the manual, and this is what the book says:
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are
• Throttle actuator control motor relay failed.
• Open or shorted throttle actuator control motor relay circuit, or connector damage.
• ECM failed. <M/T>
• PCM failed. <A/T>
so unless your ECU is fried, either you need a new throttle body, or the connectors are not making proper contact, or there's a fault in the harness...
