Help!!!! Have to smog car
So as the title says I have to do a CA smog on my car, never anticipated needing this so I tossed my cat when I went to high flow 8 years ago...
So I ask, does anyone have a OEM cat laying around I can buy/borrow????

Living in CA NEVER get rid of your smog stuff you take off. You are finding out that you need it again.
A crappy tune would cause you not to pass. If you are running well and no CEL's you shouldn't have any problems.
Wrong. I passed with a HFC the last time on my evo and I expect to do so the next time. If it looks stock they won't give you any grief.

Only reason I don't have a CEL is cuz I have the CEL eliminator bung on the rear O2 with out it it throws the code.
I was on the easy coast when I did it and never thought I'd move here but apparently life is funny like that.

why does it have to be OEM? if your stock cat got clogged or was faulty, and you took it to "joe's exhaust shop" (made up name) and had a new one welded in, it should be fine, no?
That's what one would assume so I called the muffler shop and asked. He got on a air resource board website or something like that and california hasn't approved any universal obd2 cats to be used. So the muffler shop even stated have to go to the dealer.
I used to take mine to a shady shop that passes it no matter what for a hundred bucks but last year I got a letter saying I needed to take it to a S.T.A.R. Shield certified shop or something like that. They're very strict.
I ended up getting my hands on a stock header/mid pipe and then paying a shop to finish off the exhaust with a universal cat and kept my aftermarket muffler. After they checked everything inside and out they passed me with no issues.
I would definitely call around first.
