ive also heard though that some of these lightweight fly wheels can be dangerous (crack/break) to much stress, how true are these comments?

actually the formula is about 2.7 hp for every pound off the rotating mass from the crank. if thats so, that equals 27 hp! thats insane!!! but a downside is that youll lose low end torque from a lightened flywheel.

my understanding is a lightier flywheel is faster in lower gears but not noticable in higher gears. Correct me if I'm wrong!?

hmm....that could be true, due to the fact that its already spinning and requires less power to turn. but the gain youd see in the low end is from the engine able to get up to higher rpms A LOT quicker. other than that theres easier rev matching.

That's completly true, don't listen to anyone else. That's why I said in 1st gear. The formula for calculating the gain is flawed. The diameter of the rotational mass is just as key as the weight. The flywheel in 1st gear may yeild 10 hp in 1st gear. Gains may not be as high on a dyno. Dyno's usually test your can in 4th gear because the near 1:1 gear ratio will have the least drivetrain loss.

so the flywheel will raise HP in 1st gear but it can make you lose torque? correct me if im wrong.

The techs @ my local Mitsu dealer have told me that as of late, DSM is cracking down on warranty issues related to the drivetrain. I can't even get my stock drivetrain serviced anymore under warranty because I have a cold air and exhaust work done. The tech went on to say that they are investigating any and all drivetrain warranty issues and will rule against it if they see ANY aftermarket installations, under the generalization that if its modded then you must be abusing it and this is cause for not voiding...but refusing to cover the repair or adjustment under warranty. It Blows @$$.

This (and a general lack of funds) is one of the main reasons I've left the drivetrain alone. Once that sucker comes off the warranty, though, game on.
