Adaptive Shift Control - BS?

Hi,
this is from Mitsu's website.

Adaptive Shift Control
Mitsubishi´s innovative Adaptive Shift Control incorporates "smart logic" to master any driving conditions you regularly experience.

Through advanced electronic programming, Adaptive Shift Control offers an unlimited variety of shift patterns to suit both how you drive and the driving condition that you encounter. In urban driving or bumper-to-bumper freeway commutes, Adaptive Shift Control works to offer seamlessly smooth, quiet shifts under these lower-speed driving conditions. As driving conditions change, Adaptive Shift Control changes along with them to offer faster, sharper shifts during city driving and moves into open highway mode to offer optimized fuel economy.

Is this just bulls#!t technobabble, or does this actually happen? I.e., do the auto Ralliarts switch slower when the throttle is pressed gently, and faster when it's floored, or how does this work? I personally don't have any hopes for this, but hey, you never know.

no, it works. I've felt it work under different driving conditions. It doesn't offer silky smooth shifts during every bumper-to-bumper experience I've had, but you can definitely tell that it's shifting differently between city and highway driving.

It adjusts shift timing and shift harshness. Under light throttle, the shifts are VERY nice and tame. Under WOT, the shifts are quick (still smooth) but they are quick. I also notice that when coasting to a stop, the transmission will downshift (sometimes, doesn't happen a lot).

Strange, I feel that in my car, too, and it's manual shift. The ultimate in adaptive shifting. It can tell when you want to drive the car hard, and when you want to take it easy. It can even tell whether you want to drop one gear or two to pass the car in front of you.

Yeah I've noticed the downshifts. Also, anybody notice that after driving hard, if you try driving slowly, it still tries to shift quickly from 1st to 2nd? I thought it was a problem at first, but I guess it just doesnt wanna adapt quickly enough

I test drove the auto and it felt like it "understood" it should hold a lower gear when I was going around a turn at a fairly brisk pace.

I notice that too, if I accelerate quickly and then let off the gas, it stays in second for a rolling stop/yield. So when I hit the gas again, it doesn't have to downshift from 3rd to 2nd, it already is in 2nd. It is a smart transmission.

Oh......that's why it feels like that! I tried to figure out for months why it has that floating feel when I come to a rolling stop. That's some good engineering right there.
