Spark Plugs.....Ugh

Well, i'm at 15K miles and the book recommends changing the spark plugs. So, not knowing much I went out and bought some spark plugs that supposedly fit my car. Come to find out after having everything taken off, I pulled out the first plug and compared it to what I bought. Not even close. I went around to a few auto parts stores and all were giving me the same size. I called one place and they said their computer said factory only. Which is fine, I don't mind putting in the factory NGK plugs. However, has anyone else used anything else besides? Where did you get them? How much? .... Thanks in advance for the suggestions!!!

I just took my ralliart to the dealership for its 15k tune up. I don't think they changed my spark plugs. I don't think it needs it this soon.

Well the book recommends changing the plugs at 15K for the "extreme" driving. Also, I took one out, and the ceramic around the plug was crackled.

Also, I called the dealership this morning......they have to order the plugs and i'm looking at $20 EACH!!!....I didn't know this car would be this high maint. I should have bought a BMW....lol...j/k.....

it has the platinum sparkplugs, so yes $20 per plug is right but they should last longer then 15k miles. Since yours are already out and one is cracked deffinatly replace them. Is it possable that you cracked it when you pulled it out?

No, it's a worn crackle look. If that makes sense.

Anyhow..... www.sparkplugs.com .... $42 for all 4, tax, and 3 day shipping for the stock NGK's..... much better than $80+tax from dealer.... I've never heard of the brand Denso, but they supposedly also have plugs that fit the RA's.

If somebody needs the parts numbers :
mitsubishi part number - MN158956
NGK part number - LZFR6AI
Denso part number - IKH20

And yes they are expensive.

Denso is an OEM parts supplier to Mitsubishi. Look around under your hood and you may see Denso emblems on some parts (radiator for example).

Platinum plugs "should" last anywhere from 40k to 60k miles. If you drive under "extreme" conditions, then they should last 20k to 40k miles.

I believe the iridiums make a hotter spark, while the platinums last longer.
