mivec and vtec?

i have friends that know how to control the vtec on their car's, and they want to see if they can control the mivec on one of my friend car. they want to lower the mivec setting to see if they can gain little more power out of the car. the thing is that they don't know if the mivec points can be lower like the vtec. they have some idea where to start, but my friend doesn't know if he should do it. what do you guys think about this idea?

just like lowering a vtec point its useless, vtec points lowering are dumb unless u have a different cam that performes at a lower rpm point.

Mivec is completly differnent in every aspect. both very nice systems with pros and cons to each

this has been brough up b4. only up side in moving mivec point would be to be able to go faster on the highway in 5th without sucking up lots of gas. but u would be breaking the law if u did that

one of my friend's has a civic ex and he runs low 14 with intake ,header , catback , ported- head, and vtec controler set at 3500 rpm. when the car as stock it ran mid 17. he said that changing the vtec setting helped a lot.

true, but messing with vtec/mivec settings will only benefit performance if you have aftermarket parts installed that can take advantage of altered settings. That's how your friend was able to achieve better times.

Sure you knew that, but just an FYI for everybody.

and mivec already kicks in at around 3500 =) thats about ideal for traction. any sooner and ur are too early in the gear and may not really be 'stable'. the vtec kicks in at like 6500 i think. big diff for them. not us

VTec kicks in at 4600 - 5400 rpm depending on model of motor JDM or USDM, Ive tunned hondas for many years its a way diff system and really lowering the vtec point is useless unless you have valverain work cause too low and it justr bogs honda invested tons of money in there setup and since HP sells cars if they could squise more HP out of the performance motor they would have, but they left it set at around 5200 rpm cause it kills tourque if its set down low at persay 3500 rpm. Also im not baggin on your friends EX honda but low 14's for that work is pretty instense since most type R integras barely run low 14's, depends on altitude temprature tires too many variables, basically noone can say lowering the valve system point lower will make it faster, for some setups yes it will for some youll loose power if not then tourque. You could lower the MIVEC poinjt if you wanted too but i think mitsubithi's engineer's designed it to kick in at around 3500 for a reason...

the reason why they want to mess with the mivec is to see if you can do anything to it. i think the mivec is pretty low, but you never know it might help on the performence or maybe not ;just something to think about.

Personally, I'd just like to have a way to install a switch to turn MIVEC off when cruising at highway speeds.

4600 - 5400 for VTEC?
================

I have been in and seen enough civic and accord 4 bangers. They explode in speed around 5500 rpm. Any lower VTEC rpm = have aftermarket ECU.

If you want to lower MIVEC, you are going to eat up more gas. I believe upping the MIVEC to around 5200 rpm to save gas and tune it w/ any AFC device.

^^^ exactly, cruising @ 80mph your already about 4k rpms... well into MIVEC and she just eats, eats, eats up your gas. You'd have to cruise @ 72-73mph @ around 3400-3450rpms just to say out of MIVEC. On the highway, I would like to put MIVEC @ 4000k-4500k RPM for better crusing and gas saving. I like MIVEC on the streets, so I can see why rey wants to lower it, but on the freeway, I HATE IT.

you can gain more performance out of a vtec motor if you lower it slightly 2-300 rpm lower.. Honda did not ONLY create vtec for performance, but also for fuel economy.... you have to get it tuned for it though... i know my old Field Vtec controller said it was Mivec compatible too...

i have no experience with mivec, but i do want it on my evo

i know what you guys mean about the freeway; mivec eats a lot of gas. my friend just wants to lower mivec for racing only.
