Dyno the RA
I just get the new Québec Tuning magazine (April 2005) and they have an interesting review about dyno. They have test 4 different dynos with the RA and compare the result... Here they are:
Zekes 155.5whp/5252rpm 159.3lb-pi/5252rpm
Julin Performance 134whp/5750rpm 134.5lb-pi/4000rpm
Technika Industries Inc. 162.7whp/5750rpm 164.5lb-pi/5750rpm
Trac Racing 138 whp/???rpm 133.2/???rpm
When we are looking at these numbers, we can see that every dyno is different so we should't use a dyno test as a prove of power... Between 134whp and 162.7wph they are 28.7whp of difference so... And No it's not an error: the test from Technika Industries are for the power to the wheels...

The only way you will ever know exactly is if you do a baseline and then after the mod. Is this all different dyno machines then it makes sense. Some read different than others.
I'm guessing that they used the exact same car for all for tests? Different cars can have different hp based on break in and driving habits! The dyno also depends on the personel strapping everything down right, proper tire pressure, even the condition of the tires. If it was 4 different Ralliarts, then the "test" only proved that different cars have different HP.
edit: Do you know what brand dyno's were used. Different brand dyno's definately read differently. I think Dynojet is becoming the standard that everyone looks at.

i know on the dynapack it gives u crank HP....u have to set it up to get WHP, ie measureing tire size, weight of the car etc. that why it says the 162hp. dont be fooled by the dyno...the RA has 162HP stock and that just proved MITSU numbers.
were all the dynos given SAE horsepower and torque? I think SAE is the only true format that gives actual results. The other formats can be altered to show whatever u want. I've seen it done in person on a dynojet dyno, they gave a stock car 20 more hp by just changin some figures.

I'm confused... I always thought that once you have the torque figures, you use this ecuation to calculate hp in that given rpm:
(torque x rpm) / 5252 = hp,
so supposedly, at 5252 rpm, the torque and Hp figures would be the same. Is this calculation wrong???

The type of rating does make a big difference. There are different SAE ratings too. And there are smoothed out curves also that can display different results. If they are all set to display the same rating then something is wrong.
