Gas cap dangling while filling up

Is there supposed to be some sort of mechanism to hold the gas cap when you fill up, so it doesn't just dangle and get scratches all over your paint? It's hard for me to believe that Mitsu would not have the common sense to include that feature, yet I can't seem to find any way to do it.

Hang it on the door then do a search, cuz this has been discussed.

The lip of the cap will fit in between the lip of the fuel door.

What I do is hang the cap over the little flange that holds the door shut when you press it back in. The cap teather is just long enough to allow for this, and keeps light tension on it so it doesn't fall right off.

Same here... I don't find the need to cut the line thing.

I did a write-up on this. No need to let it dangle, wedge it this way or that, or cut of off!
