Nah, Ecotec is just the name of the motor, no Vvti involved except on the new 2.4 liter version that has just been released to go into the new Cobalt LS. With the Vvti, the 2.4 Ecotec is factory rated at 170 Hp and 175 ft lbs of torque. Kinda what I'm hoping to see, but missing the mark by a hair. Still, it's a nice improvement over the old design of the 2.4 that's in my car. The Cobalt SS will be the destroked version of the Eco with a roots-type supercharger on it. I know a couple guys who have those already. Nice cars they are, but I don't have 20 G's to plunk down on one.

you will go onto other forums and say i have a cavelier and running such and such, and then everyone one that forum jumps on you a says you suck, your car sucks, etc , but i think that people on this forum are alittle more respectable to people no matter what they drive, and how they present themselves. even if i was running a ra with 500hp it would'nt give me the right to talk down on someone cause they're running 170hp , cause there is always someone faster then you. just my .02

 

I agree, And that's why I felt comfortable asking these questions here. Seems like everyone here is cool. Alot of other forums are overrun with immature a-holes (like j-body.org for example.)

 

If you got a cavalier to run mid 13's then you have my respect.

I had a late 80's cavalier as my first car. In 3 years it only ran for 2 months on the road. Kinda soured me on the cavalier thing but to each his own. I'm curious about the new cobalt as well.

Since you're a Chevy guy, can you tell me anything about the new Astra? I thought Opal had a car named the Astra and I was wondering if there was a connection.

 

Yea, the Astra is an Opel. It's an ecotec powered car, but I think it uses the 1.6 liter version. I don't have any stats on that engine, but I bet it's still peppy in an Astra. Most of those small european cars are super light.

 

that might be the next hot tuner platform.
