no one is getting 30mpg, unless they are measuring it in miles per imp. gallon.

Im getting 27 on the highway, staying out of mivec, with rrm sri. Without it, I was getting 25.

Read the gas milage thread that has been dead for about a month or two. You will see what those guys were saying.

How high can you go on the revs... can you go traight up to 3500 RPM or there's a chance it might kick in at 3450? I was wondering that because at the end of this month we're taking our first vacation with this car and I've got 500 miles to drive with it. I figure I can cut our expenses dramatically if I can rev the engine just under where the MIVEC's agressive profile comes up.

Depends. You can sit at 3500 and be fine. However, if you go above 3600 (engagement point), then you have to go back down to below 3400 (disengagement point), then back up to 3500.

So the engagement point is really at 3600?!? I had never heard of that before! Thanks (once gain) otter! You might just have saved me some precious dough man!

BTW: Somebody suggested disconnecting MIVEC. What does this involve? Simply taking out a fuse or is it a bit more complicated than that? I'd like to try this during my trip east...

I think the low engagement point is absurd considering how short this car is geared on the highway. They should have made it 4 or 4.2k rpms. That way you can cruise at high speeds and not eat as much gas. Does the 5 speed rev higher then the auto? And I thought I read its not advisable to run the car without MIVEC connected? Would this really save any gas?

The 5 speed does rev higher than the auto on the highway. Auto has a deeper overdrive and final drive.
