The other day I took a good ride in a stock RA. I now remember why I bought this car. My car has many mods and is far from stock when driving. In this stock RA I remembered that its fast, handles well, rides quietly and so on. Road feel was the best part. As for the paint, I have many chips on the hood but its because I travel on the HWY. As said before the paint is thin, but with 3m protection on the hood there should be no problems. For the price and what you get, I'd defenitely buy it again...only thing is that I have spent over $7K canadian on this car, and with this I could have bought a WRX as I need AWD. BUT the WRX would not be nearly as fun to drive. I easily beat stock WRX's on the auto-X course.

GREAT BUY

Umm....where did that info come from? And if you say 'from a dealership,' I will smack you. They say a lot of things.

But to throw my 2 cents in, I've had this car since the beginning of 2004. And in that short amount of time, I've put 43,000 miles on it. Yep, that's WAY too many miles for that time span. So I would I buy another one? Absolutely.

I knew I was going to stack miles on whatever car I bought, so I wanted something decently affordable, but reliable, sporty, but overall a simple machine. The Ralliart fits all my needs. I kinda grew out of the modding scene, so my car (except for a Magnaflow exhaust tip) is stock. But it's great. Fantastic pickup considering the specs, and the 4G69 engine is superb in terms of performance and quality. And I get great gas mileage in my car, but I don't mash on the gas either. The interior is really comfortable and set up right, and the S&S package is great as well (a finely balanced audio system for a factory offering).

I could find issues with tons of cars out there. SE-R doesn't have the level of quality that the Lancer has. And VW? Forget about it. Those cars are nightmares waiting to happen.

An EVO would be great, but not right now when I'm putting 75 miles a day on my car. For my money, and for right now, I'm completely satisfied with the RA. Still get looks in it all the time, and I love it.

Still haven't said where you got this info, plus I would assume since the Evo IX is getting an 2.0L MiVEC, that the ES and OZ would get that same engine minus the turbo of course.

sorry to bring this thread to life, but any more RA drivers want to throw in their 2 cents?

remember, the question is NOT what you would have bought if you had more money; but rather, would you buy the RA after owning it for X amount of time?

i still cant decide if I want to get that 06 RA off the dealership's lot...

I would, but I wouldn't buy another new one. Halfway through my car loan, I finally caught up to the depreciation. My car is finally worth more than I owe on it.

If I had it to do again, I'd look for one with 10-15k miles on it, and try to get it for less than $12k. Probably unlikely, but I'm no longer in the same bad situation (had three cars, none of which ran and drove) that I was in then. I needed a car, and the dealer knew it.

Sorry for the late reply...

I have been thinking about getting out of my car for the last year. I have had my Ralliart for 2 years and 3 months now, and have to say that it is a perfect car for its price range and blows the competition away, but does not have a very good resale value and that is what is killing me now. For me, I live where it snows some, but not enough to need a truck, so I'm looking into something AWD, but this is my choices of lately. I also got my Ralliart when I didnt really have credit so I was lucky to get that, but now I can buy a car up to $40k so my interest have changed. Im really wanting something turbo, with a good warranty, and possible good resale value...

1. Used 2004 Evo w/ Sun&Sound - $22,000-25,000
pros: awd, fast, made by mitsubishi, not much more insurance than the Ralliart
cons: no cruse control, hard to find, so may have to settle for 03 with just sunroof
2. Used 2005 WRX Sedan - $18,000-22,000
pros: awd, semi-fast, easily modded, and doesnt have the ugle blue interior of an STi, heated seats and climate control
cons: not quite the power of an EVO or STi but still good, and hard to find with sunroof
3. Mazdaspeed 3 - $22,000-26,000
pros: great designed car, wagon is useful due to snowboarding, and beautiful interior
cons: FWD, very dissapointed, but computer really helps out with tire spin in low gears
4. Solstice GXP or Sky Redline - $25,000-29,000
pros: awesome engine(can't wait until g5 and cobalt get this engine in '09)
cons: 2 seater
5. Cobalt SS - $19,000-24,000
pros: good engine, could be better, best gas mileage in the bunch, but I think the SS 4 door with the 2.4 in it is amazing. Runs 15.2 stock, with normal drivers
cons: interior is a piece is $h*t on these cars, have a tendicy to have exhuast and clutch problems

thats my list, im kind a mitsubishi or chevy man, but there are some other good cars out there around that price range, but this is just my list, yours could be better.

I would. Decent milage. Paint does chip easily but so did my WRX. Strange thing, the RA feels "connected" to me "one with the car "so to speak. It's been a long time since feeling that in a car. All the other cars I drove when looking for this one , Mazda 3 nice quality everwhere, I really liked the car but it felt"soft" to me. The Sentra SE build quality is down from my 99 SE which I still have. Colbalt; same thing, quality didn't seem to be there, same with Focus. Toyota and Honda had no "torque" the 2.4MIVAC has immediate torque in spades.
The RA is roomy, solid feeling. Doesn't hurt with the warranty either. Only mods are a welded on magna flow tip (seems throatier, though that make no sense) and a larger rear swaybar by RRM and Kumho Ecsta ASX tires (I had to have all season and the perelli's were too expensive. The better tires and rear swaybar are huge changes to the good on an already great car for the money. All the reports I've ever read on the RA have said the car just needs good tires. I agree.

I won't buy another one though for the fact that we need more room for the growing family...but it would be nice to keep the RA for my daily driver to/from work.

And sorry , but it won't be a Galant that we're getting, but most likely a Passat.

if I could go back and do the car over I'm not sure if I would, when we bought it was a real debate between it and a Mazda 3 and after owning the RA...it would still be a debate.

EDIT: Actually, if I knew then what I later found out I wouldn't have bought either...I would have waited the 4 months until Feb. and snatched up that 2005 legacy GT that I seen for sale...for 36 g's...and the sales guy told me they would have taken an offer of 34 g's just to get it off the lot

This is already the standard in Australia all 'ES'/base models are 4G69's - for like a year now.

i don't think I would get another RA, i love my car to death and I'm always in the market for aftermarket parts! being a student, it's hard to pay for some things, but i do have a vision of my car and what it will look like in the end, so my dreams is to make it come true and I also would like to keep my car forever! I honestly can never imagine me selling it! but if something terrible happened to my RA (stolen or wrecked) then I would look into putting a down payment on the evo iX MR, my fav evo out there! I like it more than the X just because i fell in love with the evo viii/ix body style, the ix just has a better engine than the viii

Drive fast so idiots don't wreck into you.
my ralliart was a crash magnet. got backed into in a parking lot, then i got hit hard by a 300C. i got a broken pelvis and a 5 week hospital stay...

and dont drive fast, that makes the accident you fault. i was doing the speed limit and the guy tried to turn infront of my, i swerved but couldnt miss him, he hit my drivers side at a combined speed of about 65-70mph. the ralliart held up like a champ though compared to the 300.

if i could do it over again i wouldnt buy the ralliart, simply for the reason i dont feel safe driving one. i bought my 07 tacoma Xrunner for a reason... its faster than the ralliart, handles better, and its a truck, i can put a streetbike or a dirtbike in the back of it if i want to!
