How much can our engines be stroked?

I know that the 4G63 can be stroked from 2.0L to 2.3L, so I started wondering, how much can our engines be stroked and still be able to handle a lot(20psi) of boost?

Does anyone know, and has anyone done it?

Probably not much, if any at all, since our block is based off the same series of blocks (4G6 series). You could almost consider our block a bored and stroked version of the 4G63 block.

Bore & stroke is 87.0 X 100.0

Our displacement is as big as I think it can get. If you want high boost you need low compresion pistons and possably forged internals.

You can go bigger but it isn't worth it in the long run, i.e. turbo. Get mods, its much safer that way than boring.

i've checked it out and you can go bigger, but you may have to sleeve the block beacause the walls are not very thick to begine with, so that being said, you could go from a 2.4 to a 2.8 but it's gonna cost you big bucks!, as far as piston size you can 30 over without any trouble.

can go bigger with a longer stroke or larger bore? if sleeving becomes an issues, i supose you are talking about boring it out more?i woulda guessed it would be the other way around! either way, if displacement is the goal before anything else, u started /w the wrong block i say just try to make what you have strong and think about boosting it

I don't know why you would want a 4cyl any larger then a 2.4. You'll get more tq probably but at the expense of reliability and probably HP. You may see a tiny bit in comparison to what it costs....but just Turbo the bad boy and leave it. hehe

I'm pretty sure the walls are already quite thin. As Modernracer said it would cost a lot to do. Reliability would be worse too.

you can't go from 2.4L to 2.8L on our stock block.. it's simply not enough room

have you notice that there isn't any 4 cylinder engines over 2.5L?

it's because you start getting all sorts of harmonic problems, etc..

you dont' want to do that.. trust me..

Thanks guys. I'm not planning on stroking my engine, I was just curious if it could be done and how much it could be stroked.

Not true my friend. My 05 Colorado has a 2.8 liter 4 banger. It's not quite as smooth as the Mitsu 2.4 but its pretty darn good. 175 hp and 175 lb ft of torque too.

The SPEC-R is ahead of that with a 2.5L. I don't think it's worth the gains.
