It comes on when you have about 3 gallons left in your tank on purpose just as a fair warning to let you know to stop and get gas.. Its not like most american cars where the gas light will come on when you already are out of gas. But I've driven pretty far with mine on once. I went another 120 miles.. lol. Then when I got gas, I filled up with 13.1 gallons of fuel. I think the tank is either a 13.2 or 13.5 gallon tank. Thats cutting it too close. You should keep more than 1/2 tank in your car just for emergency reasons. Or, if they start doing gas rationing..

 

My light used to come on with about a quarter tank left, which is real early. Now it comes on a lot closer to E, I guess the car's computer learned that I tend to fill it up when it's practicallly empty? I read an article about an older model Galant that did this, so I'm guessing all Mitsu cars have lights that go on far from empty, at least in the beginning. It's not a big deal, and let's you know that you have to fill up soon either way.

 

wow, I had no idea the light comes on that early. I thought something was up since I've never filled up more than 11 gals. Now I'm gonna drive around forever with the light on.
