rust..already?

I was washing my car this weekend and right inside the driver side door, near the scuff plate i noticed one tiny little rust spot and close to that one was another one that was rust spot and a tiny bubble. I think there was possibly a 3rd one, but it might have been a hard dirt spot that dissapeard with alittle scrubing. The other two seemed to get a little smaller after the wash but are still there. Needless to say it made me a little nervious of things to come. I read about some people haveing rail rust, but is it possible to get it in the door like that? What should I do? Is that it under warrenty?

Did you have to or did you buy that extended paint warranty? I have just the normal warranty.

You should take your car to your dealership before it's going to look like something that they would not want to cover.

The paint is probably only garanteed against perforation, not surface rust... I don't want to get you all depressed, but you might as well know what you're up against.

That's what mine says. Perforation, not surface rust. I have several spots of rail rust on my car, and the whole leading edge of my hood has been blasted by stones on the interstate. I'm going to have to get some touchup paint before winter.

Not sure what perforation is... Its not surface rust, just a bubble. I just see alittle rust color around the tiny bubble. Is that considered perforation?

its from the factory....when it gets painted dust and other stuff gets on the paint, and you will see rust spots if it happens to you, a clay bar will rub it out

On my trunk, just above the taillights, right at the 90-degree-angle bend, there is some rust on both sides. They are maybe 1cm in length. Dealership said they will take care of it. It might be because they've been screwing me around with brakes, and now are trying to be extra nice, but if you guys get somethign like that, try to get them to fix it. One-year-old cars should not rust, especially in low-wear spots, no matter what the weather is like.

On a new car you will see many specks of rust in the paint. This is from rail dust from when the car was transported via train. A clay bar will pull the pieces out. Paint rust is rarely covered under warranty, unless the car is really new. The rust portion of the warranty refers to underbody rust to the point where it's eating through panels into the car.

perforation, well visualize an ulcer but on paint... rust that literally eats through the metal

Yeah, if you don't see the other side of the panel through the hole, they'll tell you it's not perforated and thus isn't covered under waranty. It sucks doesn't it?

And be very cautious when buying an extended rust proofing and the corresponding waranty... most will only extend the already useless perforation waranty. These extend waranties are a waste of your money... you'd better spend it on mods.
