is 2nd gear!!!! WTF MISTU. every ***ing time it scratches 2nd at around 6k rpm, and i dont want to shift at 5krpm. so what is a definate solution. ive seen damperner kits, shifter bushings, clutch lines, solid motor mounts.......but what will completely solve the problem ruling out human error.

buy 50 cents from your local chevron and a lighter... poor the 50 cents of gas over the car light and enjoy....
that shift thing does not happen to me, all i have in that department is the brass bushings...

You need to get your syncro replaced thats the problem.
Normally a syncro will start out bad in high RPM shifts and eventually just wear down till lower rpm shifting is "near" impossible.

never heard of a synchro going out on a 6 month old car bought brand new.....so what am i suposed to tell mitsu....??? "oh wel im welll you know switching gears at 6 K rpm.....2nd gear scratches and makes it imposible to put in second untill the rpms go down and then it will go in....so ya can you fix that...."

You've never heard of a syncro going out on a new car? It happens.
Yours could be faulty or you race your car frequently like the other guy who had his second gear go on him too in the upper rpms.
You either tell them to fix it, or you just get it fixed yourself but I would at least try to get it under warranty which it should be. The car is designed to handle up to the redline if they ask you just say you noticed on a downshift in an emergency situation thats how you noticed it ??? Just trying to help.
As long as they can repeat it i'm sure they will cover it.

I'm not sure I'd want the kids (they're younger than I am
) that work at the dealer to take apart my transmission unless the synchro was totally shot, and then I'd be pushing for a new tranny. I wasn't very happy with the work they did on my rear suspension, I don't want them mucking around with my tranny.
Mine was kinda notchy going into 2nd at high rpms even when it was brand new. I put in GM Synchromesh fluid, which helped a bit. Solid shifter base and cable bushings helped a little, too. Solid motor mounts helped the most. Now the 1-2 shift goes in fine, every time.

i was told by another memeber the problem is, exessive engine movement..
im thinking about synchro mesh but i dunno where to put it in. which hole...
i rarely race from a dig so its not cuz im racing or anything. but it sure sucks to get beat by cars that usually i would rape, but i cant get into ****ing second gear and i loose 2 seconds of going nowhere.

There are how-to threads for installing shifter and cable bushings, and making your own solid motor mounts in the how-to section. There was a thread in here somewhere about changing manual transmission fluid. I even posted a pic of the fill plug. It says "OIL" right on it. Originally Posted by Ralli04Art

And if you haven't already, bypass or gut your clutch regulator.

ok... i did enough research on this subject to make me an expert. i'll explain why its happening, what started, and what to do to stop it if it aint to late...
when you redline your car, your engine moves quite a bit. when you hold the clutch in to change gears, the engine "slams" back in place, sometimes banging around your transmission a bit. the lower gear your in, the more the engine moves. First-into-2nd gear w/ the ralliart is REALLY bad, 2nd-into-3rd is sometimes bad, and 4th and 5th are good... well anyway, when you put the clutch in to change gears at high rpm, it'll "slam" into the tranny, meshing up whatever synchros are in the way. If you have a high performance clutch (like i do) the problem will get worse due to the new clutch makeing tthe engine slam into the tranny a little harder
short throw shifter wont fix it,,, a clutchline will only make you engage the clutch quicker, the 0only 2 things to do to fix this is engine dampner or motor mounts... i suggest you do one or the other ASAP, becuase the longer you wait, the more damage your synchros will get, which means harder to get that perfect shift.. i dont have a dampner, so i really shouldnt comment on that, bt i got the RRM motor mounts, and they fixed the problem 100%, but i waited to long to do so, and now my synchros are banged up bad in my 1st-2nd shift (the most important shift) ... so since i waited to long, im gonna wait tilll after my turbo to get my tranny redone... either bulletproof synchros, or just a new 6 speed raceready tranny
like i said the motor mounts stopped my engine from moviing, but it causes vibration in my car , which isnt too bad but its noticable, espeially at redlights...
hope i helped ya,, if u have any other ?'s just ask,... if anybody else wants to chime in or argue with me, go ahead

Hmmm..my tranny sometimes pops outta first with some grinding...it is only once and awhile, it does **** me off though. I need to check my bushings to see if they are the culprit...should I use anti-seize on them even though they aren't metal?

The first gear popping out is another reason to get mounts. I'm almost positive it because of tranny movement which would explain why it happens infrequently.
I have it happen about once every week and a half.

I used to miss 2nd occasionally on hard shifts due to a similar problem. I got a B&M short throw shifter and replaced all of my fluids and I haven't missed a single gear since.
