I am sure you noticed I sold my Evo and then bought a SRT-4. Some people would say I am crazy, but there are a lot of factors in that decision. First off I owned my Evo for three years and put over 50,000 miles on the car, so I know a little more than most. Over those three years the car had quite a few problems. I am not going to go into the whole build quality debate, because it is not worth the effort. I can tell you from my personal experience the car spent six weeks out of those three years in the shop getting repaired, not being modified. Two transfercases, one clutch, and a drivers front axle were just to name a few of the problems I encountered on the Evo. If you do the math you are looking at close to $6,000 in repair bills. This is not including the $5000 I put into mods on the car. Did I drive the car hard, sure at times, but never abused the car. Did I get a lemon, maybe, but quite a few people had similuar experiences with their cars. I am saying the SRT-4 will not have simular problems, no! I bought the SRT-4 for the bang for the buck and the fact that I can purchase mods directly from the factory. It is one fun little car to drive.

Putting a Ralliart against an SRT4 is like bringing a one legged man to an a$$ kicking party. Funny for everyone except him!

Give me a freaking break, 14 second car... It ran a 14.97. It also lost the comparo to the Focus, a car the SRT-4 has whooped handily in past comparisons. In a later issue the Ralliart finished 3rd and was beaten by the Mini and the Mazda 3. I've said it before and I'll say it again, for the price the Ralliart is a good car. However, it's no class leader, and it certainly can't compete with the SRT-4 in any performance category.

one quick question. i see some people utterly hate the ra's and most of them are evo owners who didn't even own one. why is that? i'm not sayin the evo or the srt4 is a bad car. i'm just sayin each his/her own. there is always a car better than the one you got. the trick is to find the one that suits you the best and makes you happy. different strokes for different folks.

RA's handle like sh_t. for the money, i'd take an SE-R, or an 06 Civic Si...most likely the Civic because it's the best looking, best handling, newest, best engineered, most reliable, highest resale, best gas mileage, best built, best quality of the bunch by far. and the **** will run in the 14's in the 1/4. i tried like hell to stop my brother from buying an 05 ralliart...but for some reason he did it. now the Si is out, and he feels like a dumbass. SRT-4's are cheap, poorly constructed, ugly, and a damn dodge. the resale on both the SRT and the RA are horrible. the interiors both suck too...but the RA is better, or should i say, not as bad. i can't really compare my EVO's interior to the RA because i've got a IX MR. it's got a good interior lol
You again?

The same guy that got ban, re-register and got ban again and pulling the same stunts that got him ban in the first place, smh. You are a prime example of why kids stop there education at highschool. Also, for the million time, stop with this "my brother has a 05 ralliart blah, blah, blah". You have no brother or any family for that matter, shouldn't you be looking for were katrina left your house?

For 162FLY, 14.9 is a great time. Let me see the mazda, scion, mini, svt or 2.5rs do that... wait it can't.

Even thou it lost to the Focus SVT, it was faster and has better performance out the box. The SRT4 only beats the SVT in straight line performance. We know the SRT4 is faster, well duh. Your the type of person to tell a blind man "you can not see" or a deaf man "you can not hear", tell us something we don't know. Again, are you really that ignorant? Are you blind? Who mention anything about the ralliart being a class leader? The ralliart did lose the mini and mazda3, but it was clear that it was the best performance vehicle out of the three.

This Lancer feels so much more lively than 162 horsepower suggests, largely because it's blessed with one of the most torque-rich and flexible four-cylinder engines ever. Despite its seemingly mediocre specs, the MIVEC-equipped long-stroke four delivers butt-flattening torque at nearly any rpm, so you don't need to rev the oil out of it to have fun. And if the Lancer had more capable tires, it'd do better in our instrumented tests. We discovered Mitsu changed tire suppliers from Bridgestone Potenzas in 2004 to Goodyear Eagles for 2005 for a net savings of about $32 (retail) per tire. This might explain why it was about a half-second slower on the dragstrip launch than one we tested previously.

I suggest you don't reply until you have something useful to add to this thread, instead of stating the obvious, we don't need to hear you justify it's "good buy" for under 20k.

If you own a evo, you don't want any non evolution lancer to do good in the performance area. You wouldnt want people to add a turbo or put suspension mods to make it better. If they buy a wing, it's your duty to tell them to buy a 35k car. If they go turbo, its your duty to say "its still FWD". You just don't want to have see any competition or any lancer do good against your evo, it's just isnt how it suppose to happen.

So, now its my duty to clown on es or oz rally owners. Im also gonna clown on the maxiam owners because they drive a fake G35, also Ill take a stab at the 350z owners aswell.

Arithmetic well put man...seriously. I think we all would like to see some competition from the base lancers/ralliarts ,but to be honest there will be no competition from base lancer owners even form ralliart owners at least not now anyways. No one here has the money to make the lancer a real threat to us i could be wrong tho and even if they did i would not lose any sleep over it. I would say to the orignal post go with ralliart and do whatever u want with it turbo it, make it all motor whatever u want it will be way funnier than a srt-4...now i test drove a ralliart before i got my evo and for the money its awesome i would take that over a srt-4 any day.

Why is it if a person thinks a Neon is ugly they must automatically think a Lancer is ugly simply because they are both inexpensive cars? Do they look the same? No.

It doesn't make much sense to compare one car's stock performance numbers to another, and then go on about mod potential. Very few of us are going to leave their car stock, and if you plan on laying down serious numbers - you are going to lose the reliability, fuel mileage, and to some extent the resale value of whatever car you're considering.

I, personally, would rather buy a car equipped with a factory turbo. However, I think the Ralliart is a much better looking, better equipped and better built vehicle then the SRT-4. I also think the RA is underated and a few smart upgrades like better tires for one, would bring out its handling prowess - and depending on how much you want to spend on power, you can get as much as your wallet can handle because it has a strong block and crank inherited from the 4GXX family.

At the moment, I can name three 4G94 Lancers that can run a 12 sec quarter mile, that I know of, there could be more. Faster than a stock Evo. I haven't seen 1/4 times for a stage 1 Ralliart, but with the amount they put to the wheels, they're definitely competition for an Evo.

Thats awesome still dont think it will be that much of a competition but i would love to see more 4g94 making that type of power...do you know how much it cost to run a 12 sec 1/4 by any chance just wondering. In the end a lancer or ralliart that is turbo is awesome i think...but at the same time it does not scare us evos ...i mean i give u guys props for what you do but the amount of money you spend just to run low 13's high 12's is not worth it to me. I have spent around 925 bucks an i ran a 12.8 at SAR its not that great for an evo i guess but to me 925 bucks and in the 12's i think is worth it and i got my evo 04 for 22k new. Still running 12's for a lancer/ralliart deserves it props no matter how much it cost.

The SRT-4 also beat the SVT around the road course (just like it would the Ralliart), and by all accounts is the better handler. It's clear that the SRT-4 is the best performance vehicle out of any car you or I mentioned. You argue the Ralliart was the better performer compared to two cars it lost a comparison to, yet the SRT-4 is a better performer than all those cars AND wins the cmparisons, so no silly excuses are needed to defend it. So why again are you saying the Ralliart is the better car? Who's the ignorant one? (psst, that's rhetorical, I know the answer)

From now on you just need to stick to the argument that the Ralliart looks better. Since it's completely subjective and just your opinion, at least you can stand by that rather than having to worry about pesky things like facts and figures.

the ralliart is the underdog against the SRT-4.hey no question about it......but the fundamentals are there.......The RA starts with an excellent platform and has the capability to hand an SRT-4 its ***...but you need to spend some time and money with it. It is after all the starting platform for the EVO. The SRT-4 is the easy way out. Im sorry but thats just the truth.they are the modern day 5.0L mustang.... Dont get me wrong I am not knocking them at all....its just the RA is better in some places that the neon platform could ever be. Just as the SRT-4 is better in some areas too. I beleive if you threw in a few extra grand the RA can be competitive with the SRT. The RA understeers like a son of a B...so?? order the RRM sway bar..like 200 shipped??problem solved....its not to hard to make 220 WHP NA from RA....I bet its relatively cheap.... so in total invest 2000 in the RA and it performs better..enjoy RA boys
