Denso Ecu ?

has anyone checked out that big green denso ecu chip in the fuse box under the hood ? it says DENSO ECU on it, i noticed that oz rally has it in ther to but i dont know if the base modle lancers have it or not .

what exactly is that for? is it like a performance chip? and if it is couldent we some how get an upgraded one or some how modify that ?

i would really like to know the purpose of it, cause it looks like some kind built in piggy back or somthing.

That's the front ECU, it controls the headlights, foglights, and daytime running lights if your car has them.

It has nothing to do with how fast your car is.

EDIT: inside it is just a small circuit board, and five relays. This is the inside of mine:

If you want the DRLs, get one from an '06 US-spec car or any year Canadian model.

Mitsutech, I thought the ECU that's built into the fusebox was the ETACS ECU..?

yeah, whole unit for sure. the ecu under dash is the ETACS and controls devices requiring timers, such as the autodimming dome light. The ecu under hood is the Front ECU. I had to have my etacs replaced because I was wiring some leds to autodim and didn't disconnect the battery. that's ok, I won't make that mistake again

yeah, I just took the leds back out and took it to them. I asked the price and the parts guy said 350USD, so it's not cheap. the funny part is I had already diagnosed the problem and told them what it was. The tech said he had to go through the motions and was talking about testing this and that. He went and got his service book and promptly took out the ecu They are starting to get to know me out there.
