Need help Identifying a chirping sound!

I'm getting this high-pitched chirp whenever I start my car on a cold morning. It only makes the sound once, and then just kinda goes away, but it still concerns me. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks very much in advance, guys.

Probably around 30-35 degrees...seems to happen more often when it's wet outside (after a rain or snow melting).

Sometimes the chirp will become audible when putting it into gear.....it goes away after the car starts moving, though.

Sounds like it's coming from the engine bay.

Could it be valve-related? I've never had the valve clearance adjusted. Probalby should get that done eventually....

nope valves make a rapid taping sound, and then sound like a sewing machine once you rev it up. its not the valves. prolly jsut something cold in the suspension, or pully sustem. does it happen when you push in the clutch, or does it just happen?

it just kinda happens immediately as I turn the key in the ignition. It's on that initial moment of startup.

I really appreciate the help!

I bet its the Throw out Bearing. Mine does it too. When i depress the clutch, it goes away mostly, when I let it out, it makes the noise again.

I have the same type of noise, I notice it when it has rained, cold, or moist outside. It is coming from the engine bay too. Sounds like its coming from the side where the pulley is.

Interesting....

Should I be concerned enough about this to take it to the dealer immediately? I'm going pretty soon for an oil change and to discuss 60K service.....

Not to hijack but my valves have always sounded like a sewing machine at idle - even with only 20 miles on the car. You can't hear it with the windows up or while going down the road - but sitting still you can clearly hear the valves.

Is this normal or should I have them checked?

Mike
