Oil change question
Oil change question
This may be a dumb question but I recently switched to synthetic and I always do my own oil changes. Before switching to synthetic, I always changed the filter and the oil at the same time. Now, I'm planning to change my oil every 10K and my oil filter every 5k. My question is if I remove the oil filter, will all the oil leak out.
A Performance Difference Would Be Noticed If Your Wanting To Do Changes At The 10k Mark ... The Engine Could Handle It But It Like The Fact That You Could Live For Two Weeks Or More W/o Food But Do You ? And Would You Want To?

I was gonna keep my flaming out of this thread but....................................
wtf are you serious first of all newb I would be scared to let you come within 100 miles of my car.
2nd you can't change the filter without the oil without making a big *** mess plus losing half your oil gimme a break
3rd 10k miles between oil changes your f'n crazy even if it is syn 3k is recommended maybe push 4k if your broke 5k and that extended oil by "Q" crap is a waste
also you should probably use a syn blend it's cheaper and does the same thing if you had an evo or f/i go witha full syn but since your in a ra n/a syn blend would be fine

Oil topics bring a multitude of opinions.
For all the oil related information you could ever want, visit the forums at bobistheoilguy.com
My personal take is to run the full recommended 7500 mile interval if running synthetic, unless your Ralliart is a taxi cab or the odometer increases 1/4 mile at a time.
Running syn for only 3K is a complete waste of money and quality oil.

Perhaps another thought, if you plan to use syn. oil for 10k, why not use a syn. oil filter that will also last for 10k? Yes such filters do exist, they're a couple $ more then a regular filter (just like syn. vs reg. oil) but hey, saves on hassle by doubling the change intervals. Just check it regularly, like you should be doing anyways and it should all be good.
Personally I've never understood the idea of draining the oil, putting on a new filter, then dumping the dirty/old oil back in the engine, even if it is technically still good for another 5k.
And hey, can't void the warranty because it's actually rated to 10-11 k.
Side Note: In my warranty/service manual it actually says to change the oil every 6000kms(assuming regular oil), I always thought 5000kms was the proper interval, and so found that a little funny.

Just fill your new filter 3/4 way up with new oil and install and check the dip stick to top off. I do the same thing with Mobil1, at half life I change the filter.

Sorry guys, I was talking kilometers when I said 5k & 10K.
If your dealing with kilometers, many premium filters will go 10K easily. For about $5 Purolator PureOne, Napa Gold, and Wix come right to mind. Mobil 1's and K&N's are about double the price, and don't provide better filtration or flow going that distance.
Seriously, check out bobistheoilguy.com. Those guys are absolutely nuts about their oils, and everything oil related.
