This thursday (may 18th), i'm getting a custom exhaust done, but I was wondering if someone could tell me, or give me some advise on the muffler. I'm getting a magnaflow, but noticed that the in/outlet pipes come in a variety of positions, eg offset/center, center/center, offset/offset
Basically, the set up will consist of the RRM downpipe, then after the flange after their pipe, a highflow cat will be welded into where the stock resonator currently is, then the muffler will be a double walled 7"long tip, magnaflow muffler(last picture, part 14829). All piping will be 2.25" wide stainless. The main idea behind this set up is to keep stock bolt up locations the same to make it easier to switch out parts if needed down the road. I also want to keep the noise down as much as possible, which is why i'm wondering about the different muffler inlet/outlet locations. If need be, there will be enough room after the cat to weld in a resonator. Any other suggestions/comments are welcomed and appreciated. Cost for everything including installation of downpipe and gaskets is $700CDN.

 

hmm dont really know the answer to your question. I would assume straight through would be the loudest, but if you have an offset exaust it may be hard to line up with the bumper cut out.

 

That is the exact muffler alot of us use. Its a perfect fit. I would try it without the resinator first, and if its too loud, add it after. That way you could possibly save yourself alittle $$.

 

i hav ea custom exhaust on my car, make sure you have a resonator, your car will sound ricey without it. and you need one inch offset on your muffler towards the center because your pipe as an S shape.

 

$700? If you want to keep the noise down dont even get a new exahust system...You can always get the RRM/ MAGNA FLOW Stainless Catback Exhaust for $459.00 and save around $200...

 

yeah, plan is to install everything without resonator first and see how it sounds, then if need be, cut and add one. So many of you are using magnaflow's part#14829 for your exhaust?
RRM's won't work because i'm using their downpipe, so their catback would mean i'm running no cat on a daily driven car. Also, the cost of RRM's converson from $459.00 USD = $500.54 CDN, plus shipping, plus brokerage, then install would be way more than my cash deal, however money is not the issue here. Please read my first post before you reply because I don't want to answer same things twice. Thanks.

 

Firstly the best results power wise will be to get the one that has a straight thru unless the guy selling you the muffler can tell you exactly the path the exhaust fumes will go because some mufflers that have a center/center offset will not nesicarily be a straight through exhaust it may have a slight bend in it which will keep exhaust sound down but will still give you the extra hp, you want a muffler that has the least amount of bends inside it - the more bends the quieter it will be but will also rob you of hp

Secondly 21/4" piping is ok if your car is a automatic. 21/2" is better for manual.

 

Alright, well the job is complete, and i'm pretty happy with the final set up. Basically it goes like this: RRM downpipe+CAT+resonator+magnaflow muffler.

 

and the last one. Best thing is because there is a cat, no need for antifoulers, no CEL, and street legal.

 

i woulda gone with 2.5 inch cuz our 2.4 liter.

gains are definately there, can't really say how much because i'd only be guessing. As for noise even with a highflow cat and resonator the noise is too loud for my taste.
MikeyD, if your just putting the muffler on, i'd say its a good one, lots of others are using it, although if you want something even a bit quiter maybe look into something with an offset, as I believe this would be even quieter.
