RIPP Supercharger
I'd be more interesting in the supercharger, but it would help if there someone would post a clear unbiased comparission between RRM's turbo and RIPP's supercharger stating also what problems people have had.
my friend i know the urge to know, but is not comparable because it is two totally diferent settings...
opinions of wich is better depend solely on the 'likes' of the person giving the opinion...
example be me i love sc but in our engine turbo is the better way to go because of the tunning posibilities (sp?)
the do not work the same and the tunning to it is not the same either that why you posibly wont get a clear and unbiased opinion

This is all true to one degree or another but the original creator of the thread didn't even ask for help making a decision about which to go with, he just wanted someone with the S/C to post a vid, audio clip, or at least an impression. I'm not attacking anyone here, lets just try to keep it on topic. If we dont have a vid, clip, or impression to post after owning or driving the s/c, what can be said now that hasn't been said a billion times already?
The only SC RA that I know of on these boards is Ralliart33. I haven't seen a post from him in some time so I'm not sure if he still gets on here or not.
I do know that he absolutely loves his SC and has gotten some pretty respectable kills with it.

He needs to post up stuff. Well maybe not needs... but it would be nice. There were only a handful of SC guys for the regular lancer to post up. However they were all talk, hardly any pics, no vids of the cars running, no sound clips.
Let me just say the SC is a shocking thing to hear. When I first heard it I thought the motor was done for. Sounded like a lot of metal getting beaten around. Once I found that the noise was normal I warmed up to it. It totally changes when you give it gas though. Sounds like most other SC systems. A high pitched wine that gets louder as RPM's go up.
Unlike the turbo setup the SC pulls you back and continues to pull you back till redline though. The turbo comes on fast and hard around 3k rpms and peaks around 4.5-5k. After that it's still powerfull but the pull feeling tapers. I'm not talking about which is more powerful only giving an explanation of the feel. So please don't misconstrue this statement.
Only real issue longevity wise that i've heard of is with the belt drive system. Belts breaking, squeeling due to being loose, etc. However RIPP is using a new loaded tensioner that auto adjusts now. I've never seen it but i've heard it pretty much fixed this issue.
With an SC you have to be careful when doing certain mods. A better flowing intake manifold/head/TB etc will raise the boost level... even though pulley size remains the same. This has caused some issues with people. Ensure you talk to RIPP and verify compatibility. If they suggest a retune then get that done before driving the car hard. BOOST can be dangerious is taken lightly. The tune is 95% of the system I feel.
Just be smart and keep up the maintenance and you shouldn't have to many issues. How's that for unbiased?
Oh, and there are other SC'd Ralliarts. 4 of them all together from what I know. 2 are entirely show though.

now hopefully we can get some SC owners to post slips, pics and sound clips.
YO! yoyo, Its like this...
If your not going the way of the Evo, then Ripp's SDS is the next best thing.
I've seen lots of I4 SDS powered cars and they all ran nice and strong.
Next time you ask me to kindly do something.
How about letting me do it myself, OK?

i have a turbo and love it and all but would of like to go the sc way due to the fact that i do mostly street light to street light racing which really isnt to my advantage with my turbo that takes 3k for it to spool up as in the sc you get instant response so intially its up to the driver if you go to the tracks alot and do most of your racing on the highway then turbo is the way to go but if you are like me and do street light to street light supercharge it
This is where things get misleading...
Yes and SC starts making boost at a lower rpm... is that better? Yes, in some applications. On a small 4 cylinder engine, time and time again, dyno's have shown less hp/tq below 2k rpm when compared to a properly sized turbo application. This is due to the paracitic nature of the SC's belt drive. At just above 2k rpm the boost comes on enough to overtake the loss.
This 2k rpm level has been lessened by some via a higher boost level. Usually around 15psi and above. The threshold then drops in between 1000-1500rpm range. Again, this is due to the belt drive, boost ramp/rpm, and the fact that the starting base is such a small displacement motor.
Put that same system on a V-6 and you've got that 1000-1500 rpm instantly even at only 5psi. On an 8cylinder it's usually right around 1k rpm.
Now this is not to bag on the SC's ability to make power... it's just stating the facts. To state that the redlight to redlight doesn't measure up isn't correct. After first gear you should be at/around max boost on either system and stay there until the end unless your shifting early and dropping out of boost. That's driver error.
If you figure the SC, set at 10psi, only is making 3psi of boost at 3k rpms. How can that statement be accurate since the turbo is making 10 by 3k? I think there's a bit of driver error on your part LOTL.
The biggest advantage i've seen to the SC system is the launch. While a good driver can control a launch from a turbo system... well lets face it, not all of us are that good. The SC comes on smooth and gives a good effective launch time and time again with minimal effort. The turbo setup can light the tires on fire and never stop if you don't control the launch. It takes a lot more skill on the turbo side. In this case if you are doing the street light to street light stuff, and are not the best of drivers, the SC is for you.
Either that or AWD

Isn't a SC better if you have an automatic than a TC? I'm sure that would make a difference, short of you revving the engine in neutral then slamming it in drive. Which I think would probably leave you transmission at the crosswalk.
Any thoughts?
BTW, I testrode with Rob of RRM his 04 ES TC stickshift, and it's a bonafide monster. One reason why I didn't buy the wrx was that the turbo lag from light to light was just horrible.
