umm...i would do a tranny swap ,but in your situation i would try to understand my car better in that you can NOT have a turbo kit with intake and headers...but you did say you wanna put some money in the car so a tranny swap should be nothin for you..........

Well isn't there chips that u can change wat ur A/T shifts at!? I mean i know there is a way you can make a A/T as powerful as M/T... Atleast i thought there was!! Also a tranny swap is really expensive.

i own an auto and kinda regreted it to until i started modding it. now i still kill the competition and have a comfy ride in 1 1/2 hrs of traffic to work. Get an intake and UD pulley and you'll be alot happier.

If you want firmer shifts you can get an aftermarket valve body for your AT. No idea if there's one out there or where you'd find it. Best bet would be to find out what past Mitsu used the same transmission and go from there. Other option is to upgrade your torque converter.

I believe the auto transmission is the same as the ones that came in the later mirages. But I forget where I heard that, and I may be wrong.

A torque converter is a fluid clutch that sits between the engine and transmission. It's what allows your car to sit still, while in gear, without stalling.

Upgrading it would help reduce powerloss and allow you to better put down higher power.

Nugordy's post may be a good place to start. b/c i don't think anyone makes one for the RA but if he's right the later mirages would fit i'd guess.

either the RRM turbo kit or a whole bunch of mods like:

RRM UD pulley
Injen CAI
RRM Intake manifold
RRM header/diwnpipe combo
Highflow Cat
RRM exhaust
RRM sway bar and perches
RRM piggyback ecu
Slotted rotors
NEW TIRES!!! the ones on my 04 sucked
and lowering springs

i think thats like 3500-4000 in parts.

I did research on this a while back. Nobody makes a torque converter specifically for Lancers (RA or otherwise), but you still have a couple of options. Companies that specialize in Torque Converters (for example, www.tciauto.com) can rebuild your torque converter to a higher stall speed. I can't really tell you what kind of value you would get on this in either performance or price because I never got that far, I axed the idea when I found out I'd have to either send my TC in or take it to a shop where they could hold the car and test it with the converter.

A higher stall-speed torque converter is going to help you most in quarter-mile launches, because it'll let you crank the RPMs up higher on a power-launch then you could otherwise. I don't know what effects, if any, it has under rolling-launch conditions, where you can't power-launch, but I would venture to say that in that aspect, the upgrade is limited. I would highly reccomend you contact TCI Auto or a local transmission shop and ask them about this to see what kind of performance increase you can get out of a TC if you're really serious about it.

Oh and one more thing, a TC upgrade doesn't increase power, it's one of those more power to the ground upgrades.
