Need Help Fast

Okay Heres The Deal. Here Recently I Have Noticed That My Rpms Have Been Jumping Like Something Unreal. Usually I Think My Car Idles At Around 900-1k Rpms. Now Sometimes It Will Jump Up To 1500 (while In Park With No Ac On) And Then Drop Down To Like 400. Then Recently It Started Dying If I Leave It In Park And Get Out To Check Anything.

Anything That Jumps Into Your Minds About Why This Is Happening.

Note: I Stay Regular On Oil Changes Etc.

However I Did Take My Car To The Shop Where I Bought It And They Did An Inspection And Said There Is Nothing Mechanically Wrong With The Car. (they Also Said My Speakers Were Fine But Apparently They Are Deaf).

I Used To Run High Test Gas In The Car Fairly Regularly. I Tried To Run A Full Tank Hoping To Clean Out A Bit Of The Engine. However It Didnt Work. Still Trying To Die On Me When I Leave It In Park.

Double check all your vacuum hose connections and reset your ECU. Any CEL associated with this?

You're mightly talented with the shift key, too.

Basically, look for any loose hoses around your intake, throttle body, manifold, etc. CEL = check engine light (some cars it says service engine soon). To reset the ECU, disconnect your battery for 10 minutes, reconnect it, then let your car idle for 10 minutes so it can relearn, then head out for a drive.

This problem could also be caused by bad gas, did it start happening soon after filling up?

No. One Thing Some People Are Telling Me Is To Have A Shop Flush Out The Transmission Fluid, And Fuel Injectors, Or Something To That Effect.

Sometimes The Cel Is On Yes.

They Told Me That I Needed A Routine Maintnence Done On It With Flushing The Tran Fluid And Flushing The Fuel Injectors I Think. He Said That Should Fix It. But Honestly Im Very Hesitant When It Comes To My Dealer's Shop. They Always Seem To Tell Me The Wrong Thing

You can go to most auto parts stores(atozne, etc) and they can pull the code for you. Also, even if the light is not on, the code should still be stored in the ECU until it is reset. I don't think you automatic tranny fluid will help, but bad gas may be a concern. If you have alot of miles on your car there MAY be some carbon buildup, but it is doubtful. That is usually a concern with cars ten yrs and older, so flushing/cleaning your fuel injectors probably won't have any effect.

Check that CEL, it will most likely identify the area you need to look more closely at, if not tell you what is bad on the car. Vacuum hoses are a good possibility, as someone stated above.

i did both the tranny and fuel system flush just recently b/c the shop i got to as been telling me to get it since 30,000. i felt a little diff. with the tranny. but i was surprised at the diff the fuel systems flush made. pedals alot more responsive. don't know if it will solve youre problem though.

At least get the tranny flush b/c my dad never did his on his auto and when his tranny started to slip everyone he took it to said that was why. then the tranny died. i think for our car they recomend every 30,000

I had a similar problem to you.

On hot days in stop and go trafic my rpm's would jump around when I took my foot off of the gas. it usually idle's around 1000 rpm but it would jump to 1500 - 2000 rpm when I took my foot off of the gas.

Turns out the problem was that wehn I put on my intake I lost the throtle cable support that is on the stock air box and I melted the cover on my throtle cable on my heat shield. We figured out a way to hang the throtle cable to keep it off the heat shield and so far the problem hasn't come back.

Later

Steve

Thanks For All The Help. I Am Having This Looked At This Weekend. The Fuel Injector Flush From The Dealership Is Like 100. But At Walmart For The Same Service It Is 20. So Im Going To Do That. Get An Oil Change, And Then Do The Tranny Thing. But Again Thanks

Okay So An Update..

Took It To Walmart For A Routine Oil Change. I Also Purchased The Fuel Injector Flush. I Noticed Response Immediately. However, The Idling Is Still Off. A Better Translation Of What Is Doing Is This.

Its Fine For A Moment. Then It Drops In Rpms Almost Instantly. If I Leave It In Park It Will Die. When In Drive It Just Jumps Back And Forth. But I Listened A Little And It Sounds Like Something Is Kicking On And The Idling Returns To Normal. However That Only Lasts About 1-2 Min Then I Can Hear Something Kick Off And Then It Starts Acting Possessed Again.

Any Hints As To What You Would Do In My Shoes?

Btw Walmart Tech Turned Off The Cel.
