well i got a rental... 06 Kia Optima... its alright atleast its something to drive.

they service manager said its warrenty cuz there is no way that i could have done that and they are going to pull the valves tommorow to check it all out. still waiting for parts to fix the timing belt, they are replacing the timing belt, the cover, and the idler gear, alone with the serpentine of course.

i really hope nothing else is wrong with the engine.

does anyone know if our engines are intergrated or non-intergrated?

If you mean interference, then yes, I believe they are. In which case, they're likely going to have to replace several valves at the least.

At least they're covering it under warranty. Are they covering the cost of your rental, too?

Yes the 4Gxx engine design is intereference. Along with the 6Gxx motors.

Make sure that head looks beautiful before they disaassemble. And I would also want them to actually identify the problem so it does NOT happen again. Not just fix it and say here you go, hope it doesn't break again.

In a nutshell, it means that the valve timing must be correct, else the valves will still be open when the pistons come up to the top of their travel, and they collide.

If the timing belt breaks in a non-interference engine, you just get a new belt, line everything back up, and put the belt on.

If the timing belt breaks on an interference engine, it means some new valves at a minimum. Last one I broke (in a '93 Talon with a 4G63), I had to replace the head and #2 piston. One of the exhaust valves snapped when the piston hit it, and it trashed the head, and put a hole through the #2 piston.

Had an RSX, non-interference AFAIK (has a timing chain, too). Valve dropped into #1 cylinder, trashed the head, wrecked #1 piston. Warranty work thank god. New head and #1 piston. I figured the belt broke, but I found out it's a chain and the timing was bang on, just a defect

the service writer is really cool, the car was taken on a flatbed this morning and she was like "you must not like driving your car very much, or you have really bad luck."

after i told her what happened she said im not the only one it has happened to. i didnt tell her that i pulled the wheel off or anything i just told her the belt snapped and now its gone. she said it will be done today but she never called me back so it looks like i will wait til monday to find anything out. i think they might have found the problem with the belt behind the pulley and might try to cover it up?
Why would they try and cover it up haha, cars break guy, that sh*t happens. All they need to do is fix it,I work in a dealership and we arnt out to get anyone!

cars break, but they sure as hell shouldnt if its got 5800 miles on it. i bought a new car because of reliability. why keep this thing? i keep having problems with it and i drive rentals more often than i drive the car i pay 350$ a month for.

anyways, update time:::

went down there and they said all of the intake valves were bent, so they ordered all new ones and the cylinder head is at the machine shop. being the jackass that i am i told him i want a port and polish for the time that i have to wait,. he laughed cuz he knew i wasnt serious but the car does not have a head on it right now and take a wild guess where they parked it... IN THE DIRT!

what the hell is wrong with people? covered or not this thing doesnt have a cylinder head on it wouldnt it be common sense to park it where the abolute least amount of damage could happen?

im working with the sales department also, they are in the process of finding me a 98-02 camaro/trans am with an LS1 and 6-speed. they are basically buying my car from me for what i owe on it and they will sell it on their lot as a dealer demo or something. because its still 06 and no dealerships around have any ralliarts, so it should be easy for them to get 20k for a used one. (that gives them room for profit)
