once again, the car goes to the shop...

well i got my car back today from mitsu because of the paint problems i have been having and im cruising down the road i hear a sound that is like a flat tire, and the car dies. no power steering or anything. i managed to coast into a parking lot, popped my hood and my surpentine belt was gone. i got it towed home and pulled off the passenger side wheel to see if what happened, come to find out looks like the belt somehow schreded itself and got behind my crank pulley... and broke a piece of the timing belt cover. looks like it got all into the timing belt because its all tangled in there. i put the wheel back on and put the car back on the ground. it will be towed to the dealership once again to be looked at.

chances are it will somehow end up my fault but i am fighting it to the death.

this is the last straw for the ralliart, time to buy a new truck

well the car being so new and no significant engine mods being done to it they can not claim that it is a wear and tear item... as this means that they are saying that you should be prepared to replace this item every so often (however many miles you have done since new) which is in by no way acceptable from a consumers point of view - also do they (mitsubishi have a road side assistance policy... if an item is seen as being a factory or workservice fault they will come by and fix and return to service center at there expense not yours... hope you have kept reciepts especially if you have just picked up car and driven it home - I believe that they are responsible for ensuring that the car is in a road worthy condition - I would think that handing keys over to a customer that is about to drive out onto the road in an unsafe car is not safe work practices

anyway good luck with it I hope it all works out

At least you don't have the UD Pulley on it yet. It would make the dealer VERY happy to tow your car in and see an aftermarket pulley on there with the shredded belt.

the car had 137 miles on it when i recieved it because it was transfered between 2 dealerships in the 6 months it was sitting on the lots. thats what i was told atleast. anyways...

the service writer is really cool, the car was taken on a flatbed this morning and she was like "you must not like driving your car very much, or you have really bad luck."

after i told her what happened she said im not the only one it has happened to. i didnt tell her that i pulled the wheel off or anything i just told her the belt snapped and now its gone. she said it will be done today but she never called me back so it looks like i will wait til monday to find anything out. i think they might have found the problem with the belt behind the pulley and might try to cover it up?

So maybe the timing belt jumped when the serpentine belt jammed in there, and trashed your valves, head, and pistons. If they have to order those parts, it'll take time to get 'em and install.

Have you talked to them about it?

Most likely. Did they give you a free loaner?

They should provide a loaner for this type of service. I assume you are the first owner of your car, therefore they should.

Make them give you a date....don't let them jack you around irregardless how long it takes.
