Cold Air Intakes.
Cold Air Intakes.
Hey Everyone,
New to the forums.. I have a 04' Lancer Ra, and i am looking for some input on which air-intake i shold go with. Aem offers an cold air intake, with the dry filter. the better performance gains are shown with this kit.
But injen also makes a cold air intake for are cars, with a wet filter. Also they carry a pre-sock, to protect agaist water and large particles. The performance gains are a little less, but nothing that you'd really be able to notice(1-2hp.) The thing is i live in Calgary,AB and we are exposed to snow, rain ect.. and i want to be sure im not going to harm anything with water being sucked in. Has anyone got any input on which intake i should go with. Thanks!

You can get a cold air Bypass to prevent water from making up the pipe if you do get into some water.

go with injen. but of coarse im just saying that because i have it. but anyways, i dont know if the aem does this, im sure it does though, u can put the intake on and leave the coldair extention off for sri.
I dont know of anyone who has used the Injen filter protetcor, so id recomend the aem bypass valve. and if you use that get the AEM just because you would have to cut a section of the injen out to make it work with the aem filter.
Or if you are really worried go with the short ram. the gains are only slightly less but are more low end, which for daily driving you can feel the money spent better.

If you have a manual and dont mind modifying it works. plus id imagine that RRMs giving better gains has to do with it being a one piece.
Even the AEM loses power (1-2hp) when putting in the valve, so if you cut the RRM intake and install this valve it'll probably be all the same. but it def. looks nicer, and if something happens RRM is more likely to help you out then AEM when you pick up the phone

It is not designed to allow flex when the engine moves. If you use it with an AEM Bypass it will rip it apart. This is not good. Plus it has more bends which is more restrictive.
