New RA owner and have some ?s/comments

Yes yes I have read the stickies!!

Anyway I just purchased an 04 RA with MT with 40K for 9,400. Not too bad I dont think. I had absolutly never driven a stick in my life but when I started the car and proceeded to drive through the curvy country roads I felt like I had been doing it for years! I almost got an 03 Spec-V but no matter how much I tried and how much people told me to get it I just couldnt force my self to do so! The RA just drove and "felt" 10x better IMO. However, why does everyone seem to hate our cars?

I dont really plan on modding my car much; maybe the piggyback ECU, intake (not sure if I want to go with CAI or SRI *see next question below*), and ud pullies all from RRM. With these mods what kind of performance can I expect? Actually since Im not a car junkie what car,in its stock configuration, will the RA be able to run with after these mods are installed?

As for the intake should I go with CAI or the SRI? Is $50 more for the CAI worth it in terms of added performance and power? Also I assume RRMs claim that the SRI will drop a second off of 0-60 time is absolute B.S. Now Ive heard good things about the company but I tend to be weary of any buisness that blatantly lies in advertising like that! Of course if this is true where do I sign up?!

Also carfax says I have the remaining factory warranty. This might sounds dumb but how does this work? Do I just take the car back to any Mitsu dealer (I bought the car from a little one man operated car lot) to get it fixed?

Thanks!

Welcome!

If you are not going to mod your car much, I would go with the SRI (the claim on RRM's site is 0-60mph time, not 60 ft. time BTW) as far as intakes go. RRM is a very reputable company that has been around for a long time (check out their sister company RRE).
If you get the SRI, Piggy and UDP.....I would guess about a 15-20 hp gain maybe (being conservative here, it may be more). As far as 1/4 mile times with these mods....probably in the 15-15.5 second range. Better tires will help even more. Should be able to run with Focus SVT, old Civic SI's, Eclipse GS, Sentra SpecV, V6 Mustangs if launched correctly.
Check with a good dealership for the remaining warranty thing. They will be able to help you with that.

Oh yeah....people hate our cars because they think they are OZ's!

Welcome!

You only have maybe 10k miles left on the warranty. You can call the warranty number in your owner's manual and ask them when your warranty runs out. It's 50k miles or 5 years from original registration, whichever comes first. They'll ask you for your VIN number.

Before you do any modifications, take the car to the dealer to perform any Technical Service Bulletins you think you will need, or anything you find problematic after driving around a month or so.

Then do your mods and have fun!

Welcome to the forum. The ralliart is a great car. I have an 04 with 52K miles on it. It had 12 when I bought it (12 miles not 12 thousand) and I have loved it the whole time. It will have its 3rd birth day at the end of this month. I havn't had any warrenty work on mine and have never had to. It isn't because I baby it either. What cars is it faster then? A lot. I have run V6 3rd gen eclipes, V6 mustangs, the old V6 nissan 300, and many 4 bangers. The car is tunner friendly if you know where to look. A lot of people do hate our cars and like stated ubove most people don't know the difference between it and an ES. I personaly like sleepers so it is okay with me. Anywho, welcome to the forum.

I too drove an 05 spec v before i bought my 05 RA...to me the ra handled better, steering was better, and had more responsive torque thru all gears..the spec v was a speedy car but just felt clunky compared to the ra..plus it damn UGLY...i think that's why they hate ra's they know bolt-for-bolt it's a better buy...plus looks better etc..i live in Virginia with plenty of curvy roads and mountains..my ra tears them up like its on a rail...it's not the fastest car but faster than most..it is a sleeper..i have no engine mods yet..i'm kinda hesistant to because it was engineered to run the way it does and i might screw it up adding stuff..i would like to change my air intake but am weary of that too..if i did it would be rrm...mine runs great stock and no tC, civic, vw, honda or mustang i've encountered was any better and usually in my rearview...basically, any import tuner u get will be superior to any GM or Ford crap of similar class..I have 3 cars. RA, and 2 subarus- imprez' & forester...the suv will absolutley haul ***..it has turbo..matter of fact, it made the top 10 fastest cars inder 35k..lmo..it was tenth...my wife drives it and she leaves everything- audi, bmw, chargers etc..wondering WHATTHEHELL....love my ra...good choice dude.

Thanks for the responses guys. As far as intakes is the RRM CAI worth the $50 extra in performance over thier SRI?

I want to keep my car looking stock as possible that is why I chose the mods I did but would I be hurting by not having the exhaust system with the intake and piggyback?

I do have 23 months and about 17K miles left on my basic warranty according to carfax so this means I can take my lancer to any mitsu dealer to get things fixed any time within this time period correct?

well lets say this... The SRI is more g low end power, cuz the air has a shorter path to travel before it goes to the intake manifold. But the air is slightly warmer, therefore less HP. the CAI on the other hand, draws of course colder, more dense air, and therefore more power. But theres a longer pipe for the air to travel, so you loose a very small bit down low, but gain maybe 10 hp all in the higher rpms... Than of course you have the risk of hydro locking your car with the CAI, but some intake systems come as a CAI and you can take it apart into a SRI (like injen's)

The exhause will give you a couple more ponies, not much though. header/exhause will give you alot, but just the exhause... maybe 4-5 tops.. Dont get a pipe TOO big, cuz than you'll lose back pressure and lose tourque. if you dont have huge amounts of hp.

Pulley is just great. check out the dyno's. All gain, no lose. 7HP 9 TQ gain... its nice

As for the warranty I hope you didn't get the RA because of it, 9 out of 10 times they will give you the bird. Most of the other questions have been answered more than once so welcome , have fun , and search , most of the questions you think of have already been answered....

+1 on the pulley, cheapest mod out their and really effective. If you're not looking to put the car to the track or get serious might want to just go SRI, cheaper and in daily driving you'll feel the low end power you got more.

As for exhaust, go 2.25". RRM makes a great one, and a few other companies make some good stuff. try a search and you'll dig up some audio clips.

The piggy, if you have the $459 to spend on it its a great mod. not hard to DIY on a saturday afternoon. and the gains are sweet.

Also may want to think about the lower tiebar from RRM, its only $89 and helps make the curves a little more fun.

Welcome!

I also test drove an 04 spec v and wasnt impressed with it, interior looked cheap and it just felt like a flashy sentra, ralliart i was impressed with looks wise, and i didnt even know anything about it, when i got it , i was truly impressed the dollar to hp ratio is phenominal, and you can take cars 2x as expensive and 2x as fast when you know what the car can do i leave mine stock just to add insult to injury to all the civic si's integras, preludes, mustangs and spec v's, after i smoke them, great car, very underated, and my friends call it a "fevo" (fake evo), but its still my baby
