Got a couple accident-related questions about mechanics
If I need a new hood, bumper, and front left quarterpanel for my car, would I be able to order the parts myself (carbon fiber hood + body kit) and take them to the mechanic or do they not allow that?
I figured since a body kit requires painting and since I need a new front bumper, might as well kill two birds with one stone.

thanks
i'm not sure, as i've never done it. I was just double checking before I went and ordered the parts (which i'm probably NOT getting from accolade after a little searching, still looking for other sources)

RoadRace makes a great Carbon Fiber hood.. but as far as body kits.. well in short, accolade is the best.. but let us know how it goes if you decide to venture into the unknown as far as body kits..
Well considering i've gone through a ****load of accidents with my RA.. haha i guess i might chime in. Find a body shop who will work with you on things, remember shipping to them is cheaper than shipping to your house in some situations. Make sure you order the parts and everything before they start work, unless they're internal work that they have to do first. As far as money goes, the insurance company will NOT (or at least in MA) cover for an aftermarket bumper unless its cheaper than the original vehicle mounted one. Meaning if your CF hood costs 500$ and your oem one costs 400$ they won't pay the difference if the total is more than they quoted you for. However they should still provide you with a supplement check if other oem parts that are being replaced with oem spec stuff adds onto the original quote.
Hope that helps.. if i were you i wouldn't understand it.. but i'm just rambling.

go to a mechanic and make him quote a lot more than what's suppose to cost...call dealer for realm oem parts...dealers will rip u off with 500+$ parts that way either u compare them with aftermarket or u just recieve the money but tell ur mechanic to buy the aftermarket one...also tell em oem need painting and that's work money that the ensurance company can't substract from the money they will give u...then just go get someone that will do it cheaper and walla there is money for u at the end of the road...

I just had a front and rear bumper from accolade installed on my car. the front end was wrecked...insurance did an estimate and wrote a check for the amount of the estimate minus the deductible (so, essentially, i could have done whatever i wanted with the money). buying the body kit and having it shipped was cheaper than replacing the stock bumper. i ordered the kit, it was shipped to my house at the request of the body shop, and i took the parts to them and they fitted/painted/installed them as well as taking care of the other damage from the accident. hope that is of some help!
The body shop has nothing to do with the parts that get used on the car in most cases. The insurance company is fully responsible for what parts get used. If they have it in your paperwork (normally in the fine print) that they can use aftermarket or used parts, you will not get new OEM. However, the aftermarket parts that you insurance will use are going to be the same as OEM parts, just a bit cheaper, and not quite as perfect of a fit.
On the note of have the shop quote more than the actual cost to repair, most will not do it since it would be insurance fraud... that, and most insurance companies can pretty well tell how much it should cost, if it sounds even a few dollars high, they will send out an adjuster to check it over...
But, most shops will work with you in the fact that if you want a part other than OEM style, they will get paid from insurance for the part they are supposed to use and let you use the money (plus pay the difference yourself) to get the non-stock items that you want.
So, can you get your bodykit and carbon hood with the insurance money... yes, it is money paying for damage to your car, you don't even have to get it fixed. You will have to pay the difference though, and if any additional time comes up with fitment or whatever, then you will have to pay that as well.
Hope that helps.

You've all been very helpful, thank you. I decided to go with the body kit from RRM after some research, it sounds like better quality and not as fragile. I'll put up pictures once this mess is finished, i'm estimating a few weeks by the time I get the parts ordered and put it in the shop.
1 more question, should I order the OEM quarterpanel I need, or just leave that up to the mechanic?
