Well i have recieved the product. Its quite nice, and a pain to open at first but i bet after your first oilchange everything will be golden as the oil helps to lube up the valve.

The fixture is made out of brass, and being hollow its only suggested to turn 1/4 turn after being hand tight for concern of stripping it out.

Pictures included below. I will review it when i get it installed and keep tabs on it as i drive with it more. I just hope it works.. otherwise well.. a big oops?

I'm so tempted to try this but for some reason I'm still leery... I can't find any bad reviews though. Thanks for the pics, I do wish that there was more holding that top piece in then that C clip.

It seems (according to this thread) AMSOIL sells it, which is another positive testament, but if you do buy it from them you get a safety ring to hold the lever in place. Apparently the smaller size zip tie works just as well. Code YM4 might get you a 10% discount if ordered direct from Fumoto.

I guess theres a guy on here who has one in his cessna, which is a testament to reliability I guess.... http://www.thedieselstop.com/archive...o=&fpart=1.htm

Here is an install doc for suby's, should be similar for any car:

Heres a few more pictures for anybody looking:

Edit: I just found one case of a failure, but he did hit it with a rock. It seems like it was more of a problem with his oil pan than the valve itself. There are also a few reports of leaks here, but other testaments to reliability as well.

Another person hit a cone auto-Xing and did not have his safety wired. It opened, but was not damaged.

I think I'll stick with the drain bolt... but I'm keeping this in mind. Thanks!

Man you have to hit a cone pretty hard to get this thing to open. Mainly because the valve release is supposed to be positioned at the top (highest point possible) and well its tough to open it as it sits on my desk now. Also what type of car was he autoxing with? Our drainbolt is pretty secluded from the line of sight for anything. I have bottomed out and scrapped my oil pan, but my nut was unharmed.

Also keep in mind, after wear and tear, overtightening etc. Your drain bolt will start to wear away at your oil pan if not properly tightened to the right spec, so this will minimize the possibility of stripping your oil pan and causing for you to retap it like some people i know do.

I was more worried about the leaks than the breaks. It seems problems with them are pretty isolated, but the drain bolt is simple enough and I have a torque wrench to tighten to spec, so no big deal

i use the one with the nipple and the nipple doesn't hang lower than the denso 150-1006 oil filter which is only slightly longer than the md356000 or mz690116. never dropped a single drop of oil in 2 years. always opened when needed without requiring excessive force. it's lock is a spring i can't see it accidentally opening.

I just installed mines over the past weekend. I did allow some oil to flow through it before finishing the install to lube up the components a bit. It works wonders and will cut my oil change time down a lot since when i do my oil changes i do them on 3 other cars as well... I'll probably be picking one up for the vr4 and the parent's cars as well soon. I keep loosing my oil change wrenches that i set aside so this'll work out better. Also its one less change for me to get covered in oil...

I have had one on my off road Xploder for like 7 years. I have offroaded, hit rocks, buried it in water, etc. and have still never had a problem with my Fumoto.
