So it definately looks like the RRM header and downpipe judging from this pic.

but everything after that looks stock seeing as how the muffler has the Mitsu logo imprinted on it.

What would you guys suggest I swap it out for? I really don't have any preference in the way it sounds as long as it's not RASPY like right now. I hardly go above 3500 RPM and right now it sounds RASPY if i'm not above 3500 RPM!

Thanks and I appreciate the comments and feedback!

edit: The swap for the stock parts must be good for performance, though.

OMG, I cant just beleive this.... You are actually complaining that the car came with a 500 dollar, hard to find, hard to pay for, modification. If you dont like the way it sounds SHORT SHIFT. The added drivability, horsies and acceleration wont kill you.

Just get a good muffler that resonates better, to tone it down and you are GOLDEN

.... Still cant believe it, that's the way I got my DP for 150 bucks, also didnt like the raspyness of it, so he sold it to me. Cheapest 10+ hp ever

Yeah, if not get a high flow cat and install it as close as you can to the Resonator, or in between the resonator and the muffler, some ppl mount their resonators more to the front, not knowing that to shut the sound better, they need to go as close as possible to the muffler

Im not a fan of making my life out of anyones suffering.... but hey, if it can make me faster, might as well....LOL

Oh by all means don't get me wrong! I definately love it but was just wondering if there's a work around for the raspiness.

I honestly didn't know the downpipe was what was making the raspiness sound, I thought it was a combination of the downpipe and the stock muffler.

When I said 'swap it out' I meant swap out the stock muffler for something that will help out the raspiness.

I guess I should have explained better, hehe.

And the raspiness is anywhere below 3500 RPMs, once I get above that and the MIVEC kicks in the raspiness goes away and it sounds beautiful.

So yeah, I guess i'll try the high flow cat, it's only $99 and if it helps out the raspiness it will probably be the best $99 i've spent on a car mod.. I looked for videos/sounds but I haven't found any with that combination except one with a magnaflow muffler instead of the stock muffler.

Once I get it I will make a before and after video just in case someone else comes by this situation. Thanks again!

OK SO, one last question before I leave this thread alone..

I did search the forums and read around 5 complete threads on this subject but when I finished each one I saw the dates were back in '06.

I read that if you have the RRM header/downpipe that you will get the raspy sound unless you install a highflow cat and a resonator.

Someone even stated that all you need is the cat and it would be good enough. You also have to put the cat as close as you can to the muffler.

I'm going to click submit on the RRM highflow cat in order to purchase it but I just would like to know that it is my best choice if I want to keep the headers/downpipe and get rid of the raspiness.

Anyone personally that has had headers/downpipe and just the cat with stock muffler that can tell me what it kind of sounds like?

The stock resonator isn't that big soI would get a new one put in. Stock muffler will not sound good at all with the added flow. Did you ever look at t size of the stock cat it is massive ! That was what was taking care of most of the noise.

yeah, and the cat relys on heat to do it's job, so you should be careful how far from the engine you mount it. as soon as you delete the stock cat the muffler fails to quell the noise, you will have to replace it no matter what resonator you put in, imho.
