One time an idiot with an EVO thought my Ra was an EVO too , he is one of those guys who doesn't know that when the low fuel light turns on he still has a couple galons to run with .... Freaks@@

 

u have to be really drunk, almost pitch black outside or just plain dumb to mistake a stock RA body with an EVO

 

RAs are really difficult to spot in US, reason for some ignorance.

Is like trying to see a Mirage

If you ever go to PR all you will see is Corollas, RAs, Mirages, Civics and all econoboxes... ocasional Evo or Subbie, even though there are a whole lot

 

or not know much about cars

 

im hanging with a guy who just built a 480 hp mustang for track use, so im thinking he knows cars and then after bragging about the mustang he asks me "so what do you have done to your evo?", and at that moment respect was lost, and who can forget mitsubsihi telling me theres no such thing as a ralliart, and the mechanic asks me "whats a ralliart?", yeah i feel great having this guy work on my car....

 

to SRT4 owners, all evo's are lancers, were in the family

 

I had a guy look in my grill for an intercooler because he didnt believe my car was an RA.

 

I got pulled over by a cop at about 10pm. He asked me if this was an evo. I said no, it's a lancer. Then he asked about the "after-market exhaust". haha. My car is stock except for a cone filter on my hacked airbox.

I just think it's kinda funny.

 

Cops are like trees nobody notice them until someone crash into them or try to cut them....

 

I don't see what the big deal is (except for the Mitsubishi personnel not knowing what an RA is). Let them think you have an Evo. Right or wrong it's still a nice car. People know things about what they're interested in. Obviously not everyones driving a Lancer out there so don't expect them to know about them. There's nothing wrong with seeing something that sparks your interest and starting up conversation with the owner. You might learn something.

If you act like snob when someone asks about your car, it makes the rest of us look bad.

Last time I went drag racing there was a guy who came up to my car and said "Nice Evo, what are you runnin under there?" and I said "thanks but its not an evo" and he said "Yes it is, what year is it, your engine looks different than mine, my Evo is an 03 I just got it" You'd think someone who owns an Evo would know what one is, I assume hes just some yuppie that wanted one because he heard they were good and knows absolutely nothing about the car. Like how to drive it, he ran like 13.8s all night

 

just saw your post and it reminded me of when I brought my car into the dealership for some warranty work and I was walking around the showroom and a salesman started talking to me and asked me what I drove in an attempt to get me to trade in for a Charger with a 3.5 , I said a ralliart and he said "Those are out already?" mind you this was in the fall of 06. Hmmmm...maybe Ive been driving a prototype or a concept all this time?

 

yeah, there is a large difference bw the current RA and evo, but some people may not be able to pick it (like i have trouble distinguishing some car models)
but what will be bad is when the next gen evo and RA come and the all look like the base lancer model with maybe fog lights differentiating(sp) them
