Tranny Ideas

Hey so I was talking to my mechanic and thinking on a way to make better use of our great 2.4l mivec engine...so I was thought about racing trannys from summit or diavlo's idea...but the car is FWD so my mech said keep that way it's what came from factory don't try to go over them they have more money than us and they tested it to properly fuction but I got the idea of an eclipses tranny...3.8's mivec tranny...

What do u guys think? forget bout fitment pliz...let's all think any mitsu tranny could fit to our RA with the proper mods u know...so do u think an eclipse 6spd manual tranny would give our RA a real top end boost!? also that tranny is for 18" wheels so we could use 17 or 18 and still get to track the way we want it...

I just wish the RA had a 6th gear....every gear stayed the way it is currently, then just a 6th on the top end. The car just SCREAMS at high cruising speeds (90MPH-ish...) and could definately benefit from some sort of overdrive...

If an Eclipse 6 SPD could fit.....I would definately consider installing it into my car.

I agree, its a very satisfying car... but 6th would be cool. Probably will be standard for many cars in the next few years i expect.

(and how r the mods coming along?)

well yes we all love our RA's the way they r but I'm thinking swapping to 6spd could really bring the RA to another level we all know after third or fourth our cars starts to stay...but anyway what other tranny would be possible? which one u guys think will help the RA?

Before you do any kind of tranny swap, check the gear ratios first. Could throw things waaaay off with the wrong one.

I've driven and raced 2006 Eclipse v6 GTs... heres my impression

First gear in an Eclipse runs to about 40 mph, second gets to like 65 or 70...from third gear on, the gears get really tight and close.... but those first 2 gears....specially 2nd would kill the RA big time.

A longer 1st gear would be nice to get a better start with clutch dropping...but 40???? thats tooo much

I have raced this eclipse...and they seem to respond very well to the second + shifts...they just don't get off the line faster because of the weight...but on second they pull very good...so maybe it's what RA needs...

In the RA I do almost same mph at same shifts...I mean RA it's just like 35 or so mph at first but second it's pretty much 70 too...third it's the one that's makes it till 100 or near...so if the difference in this 2 shifts is like 2,3 or 4 mph...the third can quickly compensate this as it should have a very very nice top end....

Not quite.
1st = 30
2nd = 60 (58, really)
3rd = 80
4th = 100ish, I think, don't remember
5th = 137, or more with more power and removed rev limiter

If the Eclipse tranny has the same gearing and final drive, then I'd love to have it. The speeds I typically drive for work, since I'm usually in the middle of nowhere, cause me to get very poor mileage, and the engine probably doesn't like sitting at 4500+ RPM for that length of time. A 6th gear would be a HUGE help.
