Cigarette lighter dead

Hey all, just went and got a really cool plug-into-the-lighter-transmit-mp3-to-radio gadgets and it wouldnt work - I was about to take it back into the store and decided to try the lighter, a phone charger etc. to find there is just no power getting to the lighter - also it doesn't light up when I turn the cars light on - and the light light that is supposed to shine in the ash/change tray is not working either.

I am hoping its just a fuse or something, but there doesn't seem to be a specific fuse for that... anyone know whats the go there?

Cheers in advance

Maybe the little connector came off. Tear your center console apart and see whats going on. I would check the fuses first though.

I don't know which fuse it is, but it should be pretty easy to narrow it down to a few suspects in the manual then visually check those fuses.

Just waiting for a break in the rain and the baby to be asleep to go outside and check. When I had a look at the diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover there wasn't one specifically for that, and everything else works. But yep, will check them all if I have to. Failing that the dealer can sort it out under warranty. But it would be cool to sort it out myself.

Again, cheers guys

Don't forget to check both fuse boxes. Both the one under the hood and the one under the dash.

Fuse #9, 15A, it's in the fuse box under the dash.

I agree and the smell permeates the car whether you smoke in it or have a smoke and get in after. I don't smoke and rarely (just the once as it was someone from work i was offering a ride) let anyone who just smoked in it.

The lighter plug is just very useful for accessories. Too bad there is only one. The Chevy Tahoe my dad had in the 90's had a bunch, and some for the backseat too. Only one was really for a lighter, the rest had rubber dust covers. Too cool.

Yeah, I have an adapter that splits it into two plugs, and sometimes even that isn't enough. I've thought about installing a couple in the armrest compartment for convenience.

I've been thinking of that too, I used to have one that split into 4 plug adapter that could be mounted with screws/tape in my last car. Just wondering if its safe/doable to I dunno, splice it to the wiring going to the ciggie lighter and mount it somewhere else so the there isnt a plug always hanging out of the lighter?

That was all it was, that fuse was burned out. I didn't realise that there was a fuse panel behind that cool little compartment - much less a little tweezer tool for pulling them and some spare fuses attached to the back of it. Its all working fine now, guessing something must have spilled on the lighter plug, I dunno.

I probably wouldn't run more than two devices off the cig lighter. If I were to install some plugs in the armrest or somewhere else, I'd give them their own power lead.
