HIDs with DRL

I'm looking to get some HIDs for my 05 Ralliart and was wondering if I can just keep my headlights on low beams (not DRL mode), at all times and not have to do the no DRL mod?

I was told in another forum that leaving the lowbeams on at all times even when car is off, sends a constant current through the ballast, which could fry it or make it last a fraction of its normal life.

why would you turn on the lights when your car is OFF....?
even so...ralliarts have the auto off feature, which turns off the lights when u turn the ignition off...

Would the battery still be giving a slight current when the car is off?

In that other forum, it was never said that there is slight current while the car is off that will kill the ballasts, it was said that having them on all the time will shorten the life of all the bulbs in the car.

Umm here is the post:

"it all depends if u have a dual beam hid, but otherwise yeah ur high beams will still work. and also if u leave ur low beams on all the time u might blwo out hte bulbs faster or even screw up ur ballasts by having ur low beams constant current running through it "

so by that logic i should never switch on my hids, cause my ballast my blow up! wait a minute...why did i buy hids for again?

yes you will shorten all the OTHER bulbs in your car by leaving the low beams on, because you will constantly have every lightbulb come on when you are in lowbeam mode. Yes you will shorten the HID bulb itself because you do not want the DRL flickering, sure beats a blown ballast and another 200 dollars right?

if the car is off, the car is OFF....if you're that paranoid about these mysterious "constant" currents running through your lights when the car is OFF then just turn the lights to the OFF position, even though the ralliarts come with an auto-OFF feature when you turn the key OFF ignition and open the door.

if you're still scared about lights blowing up, don't get hids and buy some ricer bulbs.

god this thread SERIOUSLY needs some dangerousdan.

i have to agree with chengstar, i've had the HID for a long time and i never heard of this case. all of my other friends who has it never experienced this either......at least base on how i can understand the circuit system that goes around cars. when the car is off, it is off. especially knowing that our cars have the auto off system. so.......about the mysterious current going through the system and fry the ballast, i doubt it.

and about the "slight" current. if it's "slight", how does it fry the ballast? i wanna know....

Right, thats exactly what was said, now i ask you this, where was it mentioned that when the car is off, there is a slight current running through them.
i think your taking what was said out of context.

it comes down to common sense, the more you use something the faster it will wear out. you leave the lights on whenever your driving the car around, the expected life of the bulbs will be reduced.

I think im going back to DRL, cause i eliminated it cause some people said it wont work right with HID, so i eliminated and never tested, I ALLWAYS have the HID ON!!

and some times i forgot to turn the lights off, and the car turn off every light exept the HIDs, so i end up leaving the car parked with the HID on!! hehehe

so im going back so it can turn off by itself! and turn on by it self also! hehhe

and read my signature!

i do not know all of the technical terms but the ballast will fry b/c it is trying to pull the power to ignite the bulb but does not have enough to do so....i have burnt a ballast in the process by not using a relay as well

Ok, I think that depends on the HID kit

AT LEAST my KIT (dont know about the other kits) Mi Bi-Xenon HIDs need to connect directly to the CAR battery, and it use the signal (from the bulb plug) just to activate the RELAY and the HID turn ON

So even on DRL mode (1/2 Voltage) My HIDs works perfectly, cause the Relay activates even with 1/2 Voltage.

Anyway If you Turn On the Lights (put the light switch on ON position) your headlights will have FULL VOLTAGE and when you take out the key, the car turn OFF the lights automatically, so you dont need to TURN ON or OFF the lights because the car does it itselft.

Actually I Re-enable the DRL on my car.
