I was wondering if anyone knew how long aftermarket manufacturer keep producing parts for a car before they just stop. My worry is that since the current ralliart had a reign of only 3 years and parts are scarce already, how long before we cannot find parts and have to scrap our cars. I take really good care of my car, but worry that no matter how long it lasts, if I have no parts to maintain it, it’s basically garbage, and custom made parts are not an option because that’s too expensive.
as far as aftermarket parts go they could stick around for a long time as long as ppl are buying them. oem parts ive seen last for cars maybe 10 years and then it seems that youll have to go to junk yards. this is just my experience with some older cars.
I've spent too much time on this car to just sell it, and with the turbo, I don't think it's going to be worth much. I like this car at the moment, but we'll see what happens in the future. Thanks guys.
with the new RA coming soon, and the old RA basically just not being that popular, things are only going to get worse. I really don't see how aftermarket support will get any better for the car than it is presently. This makes me a sad panda, but not as sad as it would make me to go back into debt for a new car.

I dont find it hard to get parts..I guess that's because it's easier to access JDM parts for the RA. It's not a popular car in Barbados due to availability. But I find that it's quite the opposite for me. Other aftermarket parts are cheaper than Mitsu original parts. Liek for instance I jsut ordered an intake, BOV, intercooler, and carbonfibre exhaust and that ran me about US$800.

well you got to think about it really. the new Eclipse GS has our beloved 4G69 and i dont believe that they are switching the engine in the Eclipse please correct me if im wrong
yeah there is still plenty spare parts around as our engine is used in the eclipse and also the outlander and i think one other model uses the 4g69
if ur after interior, im sure base lancer parts will have no trouble fitting
aftermarket is dying, RRM has stopped RandD i believe, and RPW is still working on items, but i dont know how long it will last...

stEVOx ... Australia/Globally the 4g69 is utilised in the Lancer, Outlander, Eclipse, and Grandis. Going on previous gen models (from the CE), spares will be around in abundance for years to come here in AUS :P
R&D isnt as strong for the 4g69 due to all manuf's concentrating on performance based models such as the EVO -- the market wanting aftermarket parts is a lot larger, and the owners generally have a lot more money to spend
