Your RA reliability.

I'd like to hear from the community how you feel about your RA's reliability. I for one have been impressed with mine.

Heres how I stand.

60k
pretty good. I had the screw under the window switches dissappear recently. never had the doors off Mitsu helped me out
don't have very many stock parts, already replaced the head gasket so that won't be an issue for awhile. I'm a little concerned with the clutch, but I have 60k hard(ask ANYONE I know and they will tell you about my driving style) miles on it and it runs like a champ!!

50K
3 accidents, 2 major and 1 minor
Defect - Tail light bubbling, 3/4 control arms front and back replaced, Shifter linkage replaced I think that's about it...
Maintenence - 1 clutch job 1100$, headlight bulbs 50$ (silverstars), tires were 400$ for snow tires... Oil changes etc... who knows how much I spent..

Reliabilty. I drive hard, similar to Dan I bet... A lot of redline and slamming of gears, but all in all I love the car and it holds up pretty well. I just wish I had the time to fix my wheel hop...

Complaint: My windows are tinted and something is rubbing against it when the windows are down (which is almost 95% of the year) and its leaving marks on the tint and slowly wearing through. I haven't taken the door panels off but its on the driverside/passengerside front windows anyone notice this?

33k miles

1 accident, leaking trunk, from time to time i have trouble getting into 1st gear and reverse, and some little minor issues that mitsu took care of under warranty.

7-10 for the car, 10-10 for my sometimes insane driving.

2004 w/ 33k miles.
So far only problem with the RA was my blown transmission at 26k miles. The teeth on 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th were all worn or gone and synchros were shot. But mitsu covered it after fighting with them.
Other than that no major defects except from my hopping the curb in an accident (still trying to fix it, money is tight)
So overall i will give her a 9/10 for reliability.

57k miles

5th and 2nd gear synchros were destroyed and got replaced by Mitsu.
Lower AC line had holes in it this last week - $250.00 repair.

Other then that, no problems - excelt for replacing a rear wheel hub due to me swerving away from a drunk driver and hitting a curb.

If that was all that had gone wrong on my car in 75,000 miles, it'd be getting a 10 out of 10.

2004
89,000 miles
Warranty work (done within first 20k miles) - 2 rear control arms replaced, 3 struts replaced
Current issues - Struts blown again, partial blame on s-techs. Rear control arms need replacing again due to bushing noise. Flexpipe is leaking badly, needs replacement. Accel. pedal position sensor is dying, needs replacement soon.
Repairs will cost me around $600 in parts and a lot of my free time.

Doesn't include wear items (clutch, brakes, tires, etc). Overall rating would be 7 out of 10, because overall, mechanically, it seems to be holding up fine. Just a lot of annoyances. It's enough though to where I probably won't own another Mitsubishi unless it's an Evo.

I've only had mine for a few months... but with 53k miles on it, it seems to be holding up well. I go back and forth between driving it really light and driving it hard. From what I understand it hasn't had any mechanical work done to it (things breaking). The transmission still feels strong. The Engine still feels strong (stronger since I've modded it).

Reliability I give it 10/10. Fun to drive? 15/10.

And geardownson.... oh you just wait ... mr. turbo

2004 RALLIART.
100500 KM

Repairs under first owner(not me)-throttle cable sticking/replaced twice appearantly? also rear control arms replaced.
No repairs for me yet, ive got a wheel bearing rumbling, still gotta put it up on a hoist to figure out which one, but other than that, nothing yet. regular maintenance though.

the two people that have already popped their headgaskets, that makes me nervous. i dont beat on my car though so i guess i shouldnt worry. might need to do a clutch soon. rear control arms are squeeking again, but its just a squeek i can deal with that. and the week trannies seems like a big problem. these dont look to be such a reliable car IMO, but i've never had any trouble with it yet so we will see.
