I change every 5k - any less then that and your wasting money. My old car had 160k miles on it and sold it without problems and my RA has 60k and no problems.

Rob, I also did the Mobil1-->RP switch a while ago. I've been changing my oil every 5000 miles since somewhere in the 30K range, up until then I was doing it every 3750. I have almost as many miles as you do, too. It'd be interesting to see if our test results were identical.
That would be interesting. Get on that.

I have used Blackstone since I bought my Evo used with 18k miles on it.

First oil change ran 3k miles - looked brand new
Second ran 3.5k miles - almost no difference
...
Last oil change - 5k miles - Blackstone suggested that I should try another 1k miles on the next oil change since they were seeing so little difference in the oil samples.

Being able to run an extra 1k miles on the oil _and_ no that it's doing no harm to the engine means that the analysis is paying for itself. I'd recommend them to anyone who cares about their car.

Sample kit ordered.

Could be a while before I send it in, though. I don't specifically remember the brand and viscosity of oil I used last time. Might have been RP 5/20 or 5/30, or if I couldn't find RP when I needed to change oil, I might have poured in M1.

I'll write it down at my next oil change, and send in a sample of that oil when it gets drained 5000 miles later. Hopefully some time in early Spring.

Just got my analysis back. I usually change around 3500 miles. Looks like I am going to try 5000 miles next time.
They say the filter is doing good. Although it looks like the TBN is a bit lower on the Mobil 1 than the Royal Purple that Otter uses. Also looks like that Royal Purple may have more detergent additives and anti-wear additives.
I have about 47k on the clock. I like that they said it looks like a great engine.....and I have done several autocrosses with it.

Got my results, and put them side-by-side with otter's and E2L's. I'm not sure if it was because my sample was run in winter, but after 5000 miles, mine was definitely more used up than otter's.

They still said it looked good, and that I should try again after 6000 miles.

I'm going to be doing another one just as soon as my amsoil order shows up. The oil in the car is still 5w30 RP, but it has ~7k on it.

otter... just wondering why you had to add 4.5qts of make up oil over the course of 5200 miles on this oil change interval?

I didn't have to, it was an error on my part, I misunderstood the question on the original form. Between oil changes I usually have to add between .5-1 qt at various intervals.

I don't. I checked it pretty religiously when the car was newer. As I put more miles on it and it still didn't use any oil, I stopped checking it so often. Now I don't even pull the stick until 3000 miles have gone by. Then I'll check it again at 4000, and change it at 5000.
