ya, i use mobile 1 and i change it every 5000 km's and i dont even usually check it except right before the oil change to make sure it hasnt gone down. But i think im also going to extend my intervals between oil changes to at least 7000 km's.

I've found that, the older my car gets, the more it's using oil. Approx. 1/2 qt every 3k miles. Compression is still fine, though, at 200psi in all 4 cylinders.

I think I'm going to switch to Royal Purple. I wasn't that happy with Castrol Syntec. Seems it didn't last long... and when the car is cold it would knock a little. I switched to Mobil and it went away. Crazy how different oils can do that. The Syntec did the same thing to my gf's OZ Rally.

I'm starting to read that RP isn't that great. Stick with M1, it seems to test better than RP, or go with Amsoil.

Plus M1 is much cheaper. Although I did put RP in my trans.

If you order Amsoil by the case via Oil Doc, it comes out to the same price as M1

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

You just order the kit, they send you everything you need, you send back the sample and get your analysis.

Read their FAQ, it's worth the effort.

ive been a big fan of RP...
whats the downside to it?
I wasnt a fan of the M1 Synthetic, especially after the mishap and slipping of using the mobil 1 tranny oil.

I'm just talking about the motor oil. For trans oil, I would only use OEM, BGII, or Amsoil. M1, even though they are no longer 100% synthetic, is still good motor oil, though.

Here's some reading - http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2457.pdf

That's an Amsoil test, so it's a bit biased, but if you read around independant sites, they back up that data.

I'm curious to see how my analysis numbers compare. I just drained my oil (RP 5w-30) and took a sample to be mailed off. It was replaced with Amsoil 5w-30. So, in another 7-8,000 miles, we can compare my numbers.

Don't worry, I'll knock out 7,000 miles within 3 months.

Hey Otter, I know this was like 2 years ago, but did you end up doing the analysis with the amsoil?

I'm about to get an oil change Amsoil along with the Ea oil filter which has a 25,000 miles or 1 year guarantee.

I figure, instead of oil changes every 8000km, 4 times a year. It'd be more cost efficient even to use the best oil and filter and run it for 24,000km or 9 months.

Nah, I never got around to doing another analysis. I really should, considering the age of my engine.
