Need Some Help
Options at this point are not good, anyway you go.
First, depending on the feel you have on the guy, I would be hesitant to take it back to him, especially after he did work he was unsure of b/f calling you. You could be providing him with his christmas budget this year. Never good to give a mechanicm, or anybody for that matter, to fix something they did wrong.
That leaves you with taking it to a different shop. If you do, tell them what has occurred up to this point. document everything. If it was the first mechanics fault take him to small claims court. Get your money back. If he did screw you, another reputable mechanic will figure it out real quick and should be willingly to testify in court, since mechanics who screw people give all mechanics a bad reputation, which is not always warrented. ( good idea to ask him if he would be willingly to goto court if he finds negilgent work)
If you do take him to courtm jump onto the Alberta Justice web site. They give you all the information you need to take legally action, including handbooks and sample claims. Just make sure you have solid real evidence, i.e. reciepts, work orders, pictures, witness testimony. Good idea to start writing everything you can remember about conversation you had with him.

That definately sounds like it's the same sound I'm getting, only mines audible throughout the powerband and in all gears.
Well, I pulled the tranny out today and it's not good. We thought we had the problem diagnosed prior to pulling it and we get in, and we're way off. The clutch is screwed, there's damage all around the pressure plate and it even looks like the shop drilled a bit off the pressure plate.
Here's a picture of the entire pressure plate, note the damage to it from rotating and the drilled hole at the top of the picture

The next two are close ups of the hole, drilled into the pressure plate.

The next two are close ups of the damage caused by the rotation.

Here is a picture of the teeth on the pressure plate, note the uneven wear and tear.

This is what I believe is causing my problems. I have sent the flywheel in to check that it is still balanced. I don't know where to go from here, I will be contacting Rob tomorrow and hopefully getting some answers. Right now, however, I am without a steady car, unfortunately. In the end, the message I have taken away from this is I hate both cars and mechanics as they are lieing SOBs.
Thanks,
Matt

Ok, as for the drilled hole i cannot really understand what they were thinking when they did that. Guessing from the wear marks from the exterior of the pressure plate has that you where most likely rubbing on the release fork which holds your throw out bearing. The uneven wear one your diaphragm springs are most likely caused from improper install for being forced. Their should be a retainer that holds into place. Was it installed correctly upon removal? Is the friction disc glazed and/or is their heat checks/uneven wear starting on the flywheel? Is their scaring on the back side of the flywheel? How far do the bolts stick through the flywheel? Did they properly install the pressure plate? To me it looks like they didn't judging by the markings on it. Is their any markings/scaring on the internal splines of the friction disc? It their scaring on the input shaft? Is their alot of endplay on the input shaft? I can go on for days......I build high preformance transmissions. I can help through this problem. Just PM me if you have anymore questions or i can answer on this thread.....

Bruces problem may be do to improper clutch adjustment to the pedal. If the setting isn't right then the clutch doesn't release like it should and still put a load on the input shaft when it should be spinning freely.
