Anyone ever replace an alternator?

My alternator needs to be replaced and looks fairly easy... but service manual says you need to remove the exhaust manifold?! That would be a b!tch. If not, I'll just do it myself.

Any input on this? I found one for $175 + core.

I just did it today and you dont have to remove the exhaust manifold. You only have to remove that gold colored bracket looking thing (2 10mm bolts) Bolt sizes for the alternator itself are 14mm. After you unbolt the alternator you just have to maneuver it until it comes out. Caution, be careful of the radiator fan!! Any other questions let me know.

Removing the exhaust manifold might make it easier to manuver the alternator out of place, but I doubt the hassle of removing the manifold is worth it, as ^ said.

you had better just unhook the battery if you are taking the alternator out of the car
