Short shift issue.
Yep he could be right, I make note to grease mines regularly. I have my centerconsole removal down to an art. Two screws in the arm rest, pull it up and out. Then two behind the mid-center console at the foot of the e-brake, then one under the ask tray. Pop the two tabs behind the foot wells after removing the plastic inserts and 2 screws behind those one on either side... Unscrew the shift knob, disconnect the wiring harness for the ash tray and cig. lighter and pull up, then back to remove....

i had to push the lubing back a day, it got super cold and rainy so my friend never was able to make it.
So we will work on it today.
I was driving around without the radio on today and noticed a squeak every once in a shift. not every shift, just once in a while. makes me almost certain were looking at a lubricant issue (and i owe cow town an apology) and still possibly a bow spring.
Will update asap.

Well, I would just take it apart and clean it all then regrease it. I think any type of thicker grease will work, I use a paste grease that is used on bikes but any type of thick engine grease will work. I wouldn't suggest a liquid based lube though, that's too thin and will just wear off. I guess you could try that white lithium based lube used for the door hinges and such.

the problem was under the hood,
the name of the part escapes me,
but it was a free fix, some WD40 and shifting it around a few minutes and she was as good as the day i bought her.
thanks to all for the help!
