I've done it that way myself, sick clutch slip, walking the accel, redline, hard shift into second, lots of wheel spin as the car dies out UNDER Mivec, and an eternity to climb back up. I managed a 2.12 that way, so I see a viable way to do it since it has happened to me before. The rest of the pass ended in 15.2 @ 88.2 miles, that's 4.1 miles LOWER than my best trap that day which was 92.3

you say your RPMs are dipping below 3500rpm when you shift to 2nd and your still getting spin? once i get full throttle, i never let off the gas at all, even through shifts. the little spin i would get was more than made up in the burst. but i don't think it ever drops below 4k rpm (i think i'd usually drop to low-mid 4k's, but its been a while). Are you letting up to regain traction?

the only problem I had was that i would get locked out of 2nd or 3rd if my shifts were really fast and precise. I never grinded, just got locked out. it takes some practice, but your face might turn red while your getting the hang of it

you can get better shift points by looking at each gear on a dyno, too. I used to shift just into redline. Then I started shifting about 200 rpm before red after dynoing in 1st and 2nd gear and seeing that I was losing all kinds of power up high. This was due to aspiration issues with my setup. Replacing the stock downpipe should help with this, but it just goes to show another benefit of some shop time.

Lol, thats the ponit, Im at WOT by the time I shift to 2nd, but when I shift it real hard I get wheel spin till the car dies out, its either that or "granny shift" Lol @ FOF, to second...decent power and halfway decent tires at the time....dont want to be near a track right now cuz it may be worse. Im running better tires but not my a big margin

I would shift from about 4k-4500k most of the time......Above that it seemed to lean out and also in 1st gear i had nothing but wheel spin.....I even broke them loose in 2nd..... i was getting pissed off.....just wasn't my day and my car wanted to get at me that day.......even on the way home on the freeway my car died at 75mph....... i was like wtf! Threw a MIL. I had my scanner on me because i brought it to the track. Pulled it and i was a TPS code.....checked the tps....all was good....erased it....hasn't come back since.....car runs fine.....weird..... I am going to try and get the Wide band in tomorrow so i can start the tuning process on my car. I have my own laptop for the car so i can change fuel maps...... I was happy though during the day that i got a 2.0 60ft...... high light of the day for me......

that is the common error on the track, the 1st pass of everybody that I see on the track are exactly as you described, and even when people have some experience a few time they do that again

And that my friend its because you are not supposed to shift into 2nd gear yet, sometimes you just have to predict what your car is doing, whats happening is that your car is spinning the tires so bad, that it is at the REDLINE, people see that, and react to shift 2nd gear, but the car wasnt going at the speed needed for 2nd gear, so when you shift 2nd your car will tend to stop spinning the tires and because you are not at the MPH you need for the desired RPM on 2nd gear, your car will just die because you are a few MPH short.

I dont know if you understand, My english is not that good, and even in spanish its hard to explain...

2nd try: (this is a example, mph and RPM are hypothetic)

You are in 1st , your supposed to shift 2nd at 25mph
You break traction on 1st so you See the car at 6500rpm and you shift 2nd
Your car will be at 20mph at that moment, so when it engage into 2nd it will just go out of powerband, something like 3500rpm instead of 4500
So you feel your car died, and its all your fault

Next time try to play with the gas pedal (look for traction) or just try to go off the line at less RPM

Hope you understand I spend nearly 3 hours of my life on this...
nah it was more like 3 or 4 minutes hehe..

Lol Manudata, well, while what u say it true, happens from time to time. But, it's not what Im saying. Im hooking first perfectly, the problem is that the tires dont hold when I shift second hard. You know how modded hondas keep the revs if you shift hard and chirp for a little while, but dont drop the revs again? it a bit like that with the difference that mine used to die...yes, I said used to

P.S. Once the hammer is down, that foot dont leave it...lol and that kiiiiiillllz me

i'm not an experienced drag dude..don't go to a track..i can shift/drive well etc...but i have trouble launching in first...maybe i'm afraid to rev it too high etc..but my transmission has knocked before when i tried to launch too hard..like i broke it or something so now i'm afraid to do it...what is the trick to a good launch with the ra?..and will the trans handle driving like that?

what i'm doing now is lifting the clutch till its just engaged and reved to about 2500 then pop clutch and acclerate..but it knocks and scares the **** outta me..lol..what am i doing wrong

please look in the driving techniques forum, that's what it's there for. also, a quick search on teh intarwebz will net many more results than you'll ever get from the RA crowd.

simply put, blip the throttle, blip it again as you let off the clutch, as soon as it grabs get on the throttle a little more and let it out all the way.

I dont know how much the tranny can hold

but, try to slip some clutch when launching that way the tranny dont get too much stress and i might make your car slip less tires

OR buy some good tires and just REV and take out the clutch, but im sure your tranny will feel it and it wont like it too much...

well its not supposed to do that, but hey, maybe I dont understand you, im having problems understanding my self, so it can be that, hehehhe

hehe my car dont even say anything when I shift 2nd gear, because of the tire/rim combination+ the gay clutch mitsubishi insstalled on my car from the factory and I always shift WOT, I just cant shift if its not like that, I have only 2 driving modes
-cruising, calm and slow shifting letting off the gas
-Racing , WOT fast shifts

Sometimes I try to mix them but most of the time I fail...

Just installed the Wide band in my car.....at idle i am around 14.5-15.0 A/F.....and WOT 15.0......I am running lean.... That blows....not i gotta data log and try and tune my car....i really don't have enough time today but maybe tomorrow....i will just take it easy..... Looks like a got alot of things to due this weekend... Usually when i spin i just hold it until the RPMs meet actual speed.....then shift.....tends to grab awsome.....I would love to eliminate wheel spin.....that is probably impossible with FWD.... To an extent.....

I figured you would say that....... Now does your "base tune" have what i need? I couldn't tell ya..... I have to data log first to see the transition..... then i will set the maps..... I will keep you posted whenever i get there...
