problem
i thought mine had stopped to but it didn't. it just takes more force to get it to "pop" but it instead makes small "grinding(ish)" noises. take a ride with your radio off and windows and see what you hear. it probably didn't quit altogether.
I would go with otter and check your spring perch.
My car was making a nasty clunk when turning / hitting a bump almost like the wheel was going to fall off. Took it to the dealership and right away they knew what it was and showed me. If you stick your hand up in the fender where your front springs are and follow the spring down to where it sits, there will almost be a cup that nicely holds rocks. If you pull the rocks out of there you should see white impressions/scuffs on the rocks, which is causing the springs to not properly compress making a bad sound.
After I pulled out 2-3 decent sized rocks never had the problem since.

I wanna comment on what 06silverRA mentioned...
The guy in the dealership i talked to said the exact same thing.. he also mentioned the rubber lip around the bottom of the strut. He says all ralliarts that come in with the same complaint he suggests for 50 bucks they'll cut the lip off and clean/wash away all the rocks, sand, etc.

That is a good thought. I have had that before and it is big PITA.
Yeah, if you have my problem the ticking shouldn't be constant. Could be rock in your tire or something is just stuck inside somewhere. Mine is still making that grinding noise whenever I turn the wheel to the right or weight gets pushed onto the spring/strut. I'm going to get it cleaned out on sunday and contact my Mitsubishi dealer/shop to see if they'll do that thing for $50 of cleaning and making that lip a clean flush cut.
